Senior Data Scientist - Transportation Analytics

About the Team:

The Walmart eCommerce team is seeking an experienced Data Scientist to develop our core transportation strategies and help shape the future of our transportation network. As a key member of our team, you will have the opportunity to set the vision for our transportation network and build on your skills to influence all levels of our organization to implement our strategy. You will work closely with exceptional omni-channel teams at Walmart and use your analytical and conceptual skills to rapidly scale a network that blends in seamlessly with our direct to customer models. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, willing to embrace the future, inventive and able to work in a fast paced and changing environment to meet customer expectations for speed and convenience. 

Responsibilities

• Apply a range of data science techniques and tools combined with subject matter expertise to support transportation strategies and automate decision making throughout the business.

• Build models using statistical modeling, mathematical modeling, econometric modeling, network modeling, machine learning algorithms, and neural networks.

• Acquire data by building the necessary SQL / ETL queries.

• Establish scalable efficient, automated processes for large scale data analyses, model development, model validation and model implementation.

• Develop a framework for continuous optimization of the network that meets our overarching customer needs and supply chain goals

• Drive strategic initiatives including sortation and final mile asset development and deployment

• Leverage deep knowledge of transportation operations to provide the best delivery experience for our customers

• Building collaborative relationships with our product team and driving priorities aligned to business goals, communicating, and prioritizing product roadmaps, and gaining buy-in from executive leadership

• Leveraging your technical aptitude to help design and use of complex logistics software systems

• Work independently to manage multiple projects at once while ensuring deadlines are met and data output is accurate and appropriate for the business.

Preferred Qualifications

• Applied experience working with transportation, ecommerce and fulfillment concept using data science, machine learning, and optimization models

• Adept at working in a fast pace environment and dealing with ambiguity

• A high financial and business acumen augmented by experience in strategic updates to senior leadership

• At least 3-5 years' of experience in quantitative analytics or data modeling

• Experience with Java, Python, Pyspark, Tensorflow, PyTorch or other related big data and machine learning technologies to design and develop robust high-performance and scalable applications.

• Knowledge of data analysis methods and techniques (e.g., Dimensionality reduction, predictive modelling, clustering, text mining etc.) for feature engineering.

• Experience developing models with structured and unstructured data sets using advanced machine learning algorithms (Neural Networks, Regression Models, Gradient Boosting Algorithms).

• A PhD or Master’s degree with emphasis on coursework including Operations Research, Statistics, Economics, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related fields
