Senior Director I, Data Architecture (EDM)

Position Summary...

What you'll do...

The Director of Data Modeling role is a critical position focused on becoming a trusted partner and delivering value through data for our customers. You will participate as a key collaborator with business and technical stakeholders, synthesizing and representing the knowledge and data requirements of the business into consumable information models. The work is strategic and enterprise in scale while also focuses on implementing customer specific solution ensuring a deep understanding of data through detailed data definitions and mappings. You will ensure our customers' data needs and pain points are addressed by providing outstanding service, assistance and knowledge of data capabilities that support our data-driven organization.

You will lead the data modeling function that will solve customer issues that positively impact their business by building highly engaged relationships, crafting solutions that solve critical priorities, ensuring our offerings are understood and driving value, serving as a "first line of defense" for data-related topics and by collaborating with our other tech and engineering teams to resolve customer obstacles.

We are looking for a technically strong Director, with a proven background in building and leading a high performing technology team that builds scalable data solutions using the latest technologies.

About the Data Systems, Retail Tech Platforms Organization:

The Data Systems team focuses on accelerating data maturity by driving automated and confident data driven decisions through the delivery of data literacy and technical capabilities that enable effective data and model management. As part of the global Retail Technology Platforms Organization, our efforts support the building and deployment of scalable, leverageable capabilities and systems for the whole of the Walmart enterprise. We protect customer, associate, and partner data, ensuring privacy and security when collecting and using data.

You'll sweep us off our feet if you have...

• Implemented an enterprise data modeling program including consistent definitions and foundation across business domains

• Executed enterprise data modeling solutions that are scalable, automated, and drive impactful business solutions

• Worked closely with data stewards, data architects, business architects, solution architects and data analysts to implement data modeling solutions to streamline and support retail tech platforms

• Strong knowledge in semantic modeling, graph modeling and ontology development

• Expertise in data architecture principles with proven enterprise-wide adoption

• Demonstrated data modeling leadership and influence across enterprise team

You'll make an impact by:

• Establish standards, guidelines, and procedures for model design and maintenance

• Guide a team of data modelers that implement against the standards and guidelines

• Determine how various entities are related and develop entity relationship diagrams that represent the connections among the entities; identify each entity's characteristics and properties and ensure that the entities can be differentiated within the model

• As a leader in the data modeling group, you will drive a spirit of innovation and data strategy by building and improving the data modeling and database design practice

• Design and architect insightful, concise data modeling solutions to drive the most informed, effective decisions for our business strategy.

• Enhance the existing data models, build new data models, and provide full coverage to our business in our enterprise data model.

• Work closely with the business and technical teams and create or assist in the creation of scalable, flexible, and well documented data models that enable database designs that will enhance product offerings and speed time to market

• Drive conformance to the data strategy and Enterprise Data Taxonomy

• Develop relationships across the enterprise that help you understand our business models, our current data environment and needs, and how data drives our success.

• Collaborate with business partners to provide guidance in implementing the right data model and practices that meet their needs.

• Proven experience in designing and deploying highly performant data models that meet business needs.

• Demonstrate a combination of strong technical, people, and operational skills and a platform mindset and have a track record of using data to drive continual improvement

• Partner effectively and build consensus with multiple stakeholders, including Business, Product, Data Governance, Data Strategy, Platforms, UX, and other Engineering teams

• Set automation goals and deliverables based on the established success criteria and define key metrics to measure progress and effectiveness of the solution; quantify the business impact.

• Analyze the business problem within one's discipline and question assumptions to help the business identify the root cause.

• Develop and executes strategy using current business roadmap by analyzing competitive industry trends, technology landscape, and plans next gen data strategy to complex business problems.

• Influence business stakeholders. Translate business requirements into strategies and initiatives and drive the execution of deliverables. Challenge business assumptions on topics related to one's domain expertise.

• Design, implement, and improve processes in data management. Mentor, coach and provides architectural guidance to multiple teams building innovative applications. Evaluate and apply data warehousing best practices.

• Standardize and build a fact-based metric driven engineering culture across the engineering organization. Help hire, upskill and mentor a strong team of architects and engineers. Cultivates an environment where associates respect and adhere to company standards of integrity and ethics. Pro-actively act as Walmart's engineering tech brand ambassador.

architecture, business intelligence, business analytics or related field.
3 years' supervisory experience.
