This Senior Director role will lead our Integrated Planning business(S&OP) for our Sam’s Club Supply Chain. This position is accountable for aligning the company to a single Integrated Business Plan that accurately reflects expected customer demand and the capacity required to meet the demand. The Integrated Business Plan cascades total US Company Physical and Digital Sales to expected physical units and plans how these goods will flow from point of origin to the customer across all channels, business units, geographies and time horizons. The Integrated Business Plan must accurately reflect the 5 Year Long Range Plan (LRP) and the Annual Operating Plan with sales and units translated to quarterly, weekly and daily units down to a node/building level to enable capacity and staffing decisions. This role will drive sales growth over the next 5 years by ensuring we have adequate capacity in the right places and drive over cost savings by ensuring optimal investment and staffing to support our growing customer demand. This role will work across the entire company but very closely with Merchants, Marketing, Finance, Club Operations and Supply Chain.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Business Partnerships: Drives results and strategy around the business objectives by providing consulting expertise and acting as a subject matter expert to senior functional leadership (e.g., VPs, SVPs); articulates the needs of current and future customers to executive leadership. Consults with executive leadership to identify opportunities to use insights about current and future customers to inform opportunities to drive innovation in the customer experience. Develops strategies to advance customer advocacy across channels by providing direction on customer strategies. Works extremely closely with Global Tech organization and specifically the Data Science teams working to develop the Machine Learning that will power the Integrated Planning Platform’s demand and capacity forecasting in the future.
Project Scope: Leads all advanced analytics projects for a moderately complex business area, category or prototype across platforms based on broad industry and organizational knowledge. Ensures solution and analytical plans reflect business priorities.
Model Development: Directs the development and implementation of data models for all projects within a moderately complex business area or category. Leads the development of new modeling algorithms and approaches by evaluating industry trends. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to align modeling solutions with business priorities and strategies.
Proof of Concept and Prototype: Directs the implementation of production-ready complex algorithms for all projects. Presents production-ready algorithms to cross-functional partners (e.g., software engineering, category management) to gain buy-in. Evaluates new data analysis tools and processes (e.g., natural language processing, machine learning) to determine their utility for prototype and algorithm development.
Data Collection and Analysis: Directs analysis of business issues, considering team structures and iteration models needed to develop innovative solutions. Leads the development of new analytics approaches by evaluating industry trends and business area or category performance. Collaborates with leadership across all analytics functions to define the data analysis strategies based on business priorities.
Collaboration: Partners with functional leadership and other cross-functional leaders across the organization (e.g., Categories, Customer Experience, Merchandising) to develop consultative solutions for all projects for a moderately complex business area, category or prototype, ensure buy-in for recommendations as necessary and ensure alignment on data analysis strategies. Proactively maintains existing relationships and develops new relationships with external business partners and vendors.
People Development: Ensures associates are receiving learning and development opportunities (e.g., training, mentoring) for the good of the associate and Walmart. Coaches team members and provides feedback to enhance skills, knowledge and work performance. Mentors less experienced associates, managers and directors. Identifies new and emerging skills needed by analytics associates.
Strategic Problem Solving: Trains others in the process of eliciting alternatives and assessing their impact. Orchestrates the resolution of high impact and cross functional problems. Monitors industry for best practices and new techniques in problem-solving. Successfully organizes problem solvers and stakeholders for high impact problems. Predicts and explains long-term trends and implications for alternatives. Gains agreement on the problem-solving process, risk assessment, decision points, and criteria.
Manages the development of the Integrated Flow Planning platform by ensuring the design, development, and analysis of complex fulfillment scenarios within the platform to support supply chain needs; ensuring the Integrated Planning model represents optimal business processes from end-to-end; building cross-functional support for Flow plans; and collaborating with key functional leaders to proactively influence plan adjustments to drive optimal business results.
Ensures Flow modeling and prioritization information drives business actions by communicating and collaborating with key stakeholders; ensuring modeling and prioritization data is distributed in a timely manner; and managing plan adjustments to related plans (for example, merchant financial plans, store staffing) when business action is necessary.
Oversees the DC (Distribution Center) Flow forecasting direction by managing the execution of advanced analytical models to help increase DC operational efficiencies; managing case volume and trailer forecasts to ensure effectiveness; ensuring the development of Flow process insights to identify changes in trends and instructing and providing corrective action when needed; and managing cross-functional partnerships to drive prioritization efforts and promote optimal forecasting results.
Cultivates an environment where associates respect and adhere to company standards of integrity and ethics by integrating these values into all programs and practices; developing consequences for violations or non-compliance; and supporting the Open Door Policy.
Develops and leverages internal and external partnerships and networks to maximize the achievement of business goals by sponsoring and leading key community outreach and involvement initiatives; engaging key stakeholders in the development, execution, and evaluation of appropriate business plans and initiatives; and supporting associate efforts in these areas.
