What you'll do...

Are you passionate about solving problems for the Customer?  Do you love driving results for the business with break-through Marketing strategies?

In this role, you will have the opportunity to help our customers easily and affordably own the transformation of their spaces and activities in marketing our Hardlines (DIY/ Hardware & Tools, Sporting Goods, Outdoor, Auto) businesses. 

You will do this by being an expert in the customer, industry and competitor insights that supports Walmart’s Business, Marketing & Enterprise strategy.

You’ll make an impact by:

  • Partnering with the Hardlines merchant team to omni build customer marketing strategies;
  • Ensuring campaigns deliver on the briefs working with creative, media, performance marketing, analytics and reporting;
  • Using data to optimize the varying messages and offerings across the Walmart customer base;
  • Partner with channel & digital teams to ensure consistent and relevant value proposition for the products, based on customer needs and behaviors and
  • Innovating on channels and approach to reach our customer.

This Marketer brings new ideas and innovative approaches within and across business units by creating and nurturing an environment of innovation and collaboration; taking abstract ideas and helping others throughout multiple levels of the organization understand and embrace the vision; and contributing to and playing a role in developing business unit strategic plans.

Coordinates cross-functional, business centric planning, by facilitating planning and budgeting meetings with key areas of the business (for example, Store Experience, Media, Research, Walmart.com Merchandising, Operations, Corporate Communications); ensuring cross-functional integration into campaign planning; and reviewing and making recommendations about campaign budget management.

Executes the overall marketing strategy and growth plan to ensure profitable and effective growth, and leading the creation and implementation of customer focused business plans that drive targeted customer segments (for example, price value shopper, brand aspirational) behavior; initiating, supervising, and leading customer research, analysis, and strategy development; and developing and implementing company marketing initiatives (for example, segment marketing, brand stewardship, loyalty marketing).

Ensures marketing strategy communication across the organization by reviewing annual plans and budgets with appropriate leadership; communicating and presenting campaign details and results; and working with senior leadership on ad hoc planning and budgeting for key marketing needs.

Identifies needs within and across business units by analyzing, interpreting, and responding to key data sources (for example, sales data, primary and secondary consumer, trend, tracking, market data); developing strategic initiatives based on the data; tracking program performance and results on an ongoing basis; and approving and prioritizing plans based on evaluation of performance.

Leverages external partnerships to maximize the achievement of business goals; engaging key stakeholders in the development, execution, and evaluation of appropriate business plans and initiatives; and supporting associate efforts in these areas.

 

Candidate requirements:
Specifically, the ideal candidate has a demonstrable track record in the following dimensions:

  • Proven leadership and people development skills, as well as experience leading a multi-functional and disciplined marketing organization
  • Expertise in leveraging offline + digital marketing, social, mobile, and new media to engage customers and transform brand and customer experience.
  • Superior analytical skills and the ability to leverage performance data and convert consumer insights and trend data into high impact marketing initiatives
  • Experience in a rigorous testing environment. Must be passionate about presenting a fact based argument and be results/metrics driven.
  • Strategic vision and ability to execute programs with measurable impact.
  • Oversee the growth and development of category specific, customer-centric, marketing plans with attention to detail; focused on driving awareness, acquisition and retention. Liaise heavily with media, brand, retention, and partnership teams to bring plans to life.
  • Leverage internal creative team and agencies to build breakthrough, innovative marketing campaigns to drive category adoption and growth.
  • Partner with internal and external leaders (design, merchandising, tech, product management, and senior executives) to deliver on cross-functional marketing campaigns with tight timelines, high visibility, and material impact.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10+ years in Brand or retail marketing. Experience in the Hardlines industry a plus.
  •  Heavy experience working cross-functionally and building innovative marketing plans from the ground up.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with a high attention to detail. Highly proficient in excel.
  • Sharp creative eye; experience testing and learning messaging and creative; experience in brand building efforts.
  • Creative and collaborative team player who can work with multiple cross-functional stakeholder groups, influence decisions, and work under pressure.
  • Performance marketing experience. Proven ability to work with data to understand and analyze performance, optimize plans, drive decisions, and measure impact to the business.
     

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years marketing experience in a retail environment.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration.
