Position Summary...

What you'll do...

Introduction

The Cassandra team in Global Technology Platform is a very well established PaaS team managing over a thousand clusters for application teams all over the company. Our team takes pride in running these clusters efficiently and with a great deal of automation such that manual intervention is minimum. Further more, the clusters are spread across different Cloud Providers like Azure, GCP and private data-centers and our users can see real time metrics from all clusters to know quickly where there are performance bottlenecks, faulty hardware or erratic client side configuration.

We continuously strive to save millions of dollars an year by extracting more performance and making best use of cloud and Linux configs.

Our client side libraries enhance the open-source ones with lots of features for stability, faster failover, hot config swap and baking in best defaults. On the server side, we enhance cross-dc replication and provide HA guarantees.

An ideal candidate for the team would have a passion to learn and an inclination to extract best performance from hardware, Linux and cloud providers. Experience with Cassandra, Ruby, Java, Chef, Ansible, Grafana, Linux and performance tuning is a definite plus.

You'll make an impact by...

You have the opportunity to save millions of dollars per year by getting the best performance from our huge fleet of Cassandra clusters that process petabytes of data every second.

What you'll do...

Designing and creating CI/CD pipelines for platform provisioning, full lifecycle management. Building the platform control panel to operate fleet of clusters efficiently. Integrating our Managed Service offering with the Walmart Platform Ecosystem and enable Operational Excellence at Scale.

Optimize and contribute to present codebase to integrate constantly evolving business logic and usage patterns, creating self-healing frameworks that track production environment performance and generate alerts upon detection of unusual behavior.

Analyze, debug, and fix customer reported issues as part of timely regular maintenance, including mitigating the impact of flaws inherent in the open-source Apache Cassandra platform itself, to minimize the production impact faced by application team.

Provide support to the business by responding to user's questions, concerns, and issues (for example, technical feasibility, implementation strategies); identifying short- and long-term solutions; facilitating resolutions; and leading cross-functional partnership.

Expanding the platform offerings for multiple cloud providers, implementing technical controls to safeguard the platform from bad patterns and implementing Security Best Practices and Standards

Preferred Skillset...

• Apache Cassandra or any other NoSQL Database system.

• Java, Scala, or any Object-oriented Languages

• Chef, Ansible, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, Prometheus, Grafana, Linux, Unix fundamentals.

• Good communication skills
