We are the incubation arm of Walmart. Store No8 was formed in 2017 as part of Walmart's larger innovation mission to shape the future of commerce. We pursue big ideas and take risks by stepping outside of Walmart's core business to focus on leapfrog capabilities across conversational commerce, mixed reality, in-store digitization, and more. Our ultimate goal: fuel Walmart's core business, create new operational efficiencies, and unlock amazing experiences for our customers in the long-term.
This team within Store N8 is helping us understand everything we can about our inventory, in real-time bothwhat it isandwhere it is so we are always in-stock and able to deliver on customer needs.
About the Role
As a Staff Data Engineer for one of our Store N8's portfolio companies, your focus will be finding trends in data sets and integrating with various internal systems to understand our data at scale. Reporting directly to the Head of Engineering, you will partner with data science, product, engineering, store operations, and legal teams, leveraging expertise and contributing to the tech community. You will need to be an inquisitive, out of the box thinker with a bias for action and excellent communication skills. Together, we will pioneer technologies that reinvent the customer and associate experience, new ways of working, and new ways of shopping.

What You'll Do
- Join a newly created team as one of the early engineers and have significant opportunity to make an impact by prototyping next-generation online and in-store inventory experiences.
- Apply business acumen to successfully understand and apply a data strategy roadmap and articulate the vision.
- Lead discovery phases integrating with multiple internal systems and teams to ingest data and identify new ideas to forecast business and operational issues.
- Architect, design, build, test and deploy cutting-edge solutions that are easily digestible to help the team make the best decisions based on the data.
- Write code, create test cases, and proof of concepts. Translate business problems to data related mathematical solutions.
- Identify the right open-source tools to deliver product features by performing research POC/Pilot and/or interacting with various open-source forums.
What You'll Need
- 3+ years relevant experience in the following
- Coding with at least one of the following: Python, JS, Java
- SQL, Oracle, API Integrations
- Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure
- Data structures and data migration protocols
- 4+ years' experience in data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analytics.
- Success delivering impactful results.
- Boundless energy and passion for engineering data used to solve dynamic problems that will shape the future of retail.
- A collaborative connector who builds bridges between teams and functions.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science and 4 years' experience in software engineering or related field OR 6 years in software engineering or related field OR Master's degree in Computer Science and 2 years' experience in software engineering or related field.
