Staff Software Engineer

Position Summary...

What you'll do...

The core focus of Edge Platform is to develop and implement new innovative software solutions, which scale significantly with business demand and enhance Walmart's cloud platforms. We take pride in developing, maintaining and enhancing multiple massive clusters of front-end-optimizing (FEO) reverse proxies with on the fly content rewriting, image resizing, caching, request-response life-cycle and Lua event handler execution (all multi domain/tenant). We own the responsibilities of development, deployment and operation of a Walmart’s CDN ecosystem involving BGP/anycast, DNS servers and peer-to-peer health monitoring.

You will be involved in exciting innovative projects using distributed technologies and highly scaled environments.  Walmart sites experience enormous load during sales events and other special events. Currently our team is building a distributed queue using edge computing to try to handle this load better. Help us design, build, test, and scale this unique system that will have a huge impact on Walmart's future business.

Areas of responsibility include:

• Involved in planning of system, development, and deployment as well as responsible for meeting software compliance standards

• Drives technical vision and influences product roadmap and vision

• Implement large-scale, complex, cross-functional projects

• Leads the discovery phase of large projects to develop high level design

• Supervise the work of cross-functional groups of engineers, including offshore associates

• Directs root cause analysis of critical business and production issues

• Supports business objectives and ensures the business needs are being met

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or Mathematics or 7+ years of applicable industry experience

• Experience with distributed systems and one or more commercially available content delivery network platforms

• Clear understanding of TCP/HTTP request/response protocols/lifecycle

• 4+ Experience in a language such as Go/C/C++/Java

• Experience writing JavaScript, or the ability to quickly learn it

• Experience in using Terraform to provision and manage infrastructure as code

• Ability to interact effectively with a variety of business and technical stakeholders

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including writing technical documentation

• Experience with CDNs, especially Akamai and Cloudflare is good to have

• Experience with AWS Lambda, Cloudflare Workers, Google Cloud Functions, or a similar distributed computing platform is preferred
