Introduction

It’s exciting time to join our Walmart journey. We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer for a key position on Walmart’s Muse Team. The Muse team is developing a comprehensive platform aimed squarely at improving the quality of Walmart’s fresh produce and meat. We started as a hack days project and never abandoned the “startup mentality”, choosing to operate in the way best suited to reach that goal. They listen to each other, make their voices heard, and stand together to tackle some of the most challenging problems facing the fresh supply chain from farm to fridge. Expect to be held to a high standard while being given the opportunity to experiment and fail, provided you’re willing to pick yourself back up afterwards. 

What you will do:

• Develop highly scalable services to process millions of requests per day and solve complex software systems problems by leveraging state-of-the-art technology.
• Demonstrate high levels of adaptability choosing the right technology, pattern, design, and team for each project.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to senior engineers and up level the Muse Team
• Work with the product managers to deliver cutting edge features to broaden the Muse platform to be able to meet the changing needs and expectations of our customers. 
• Drive projects of high visibility across the organization. 

About you:

You have and can implement big ideas with a positive attitude. You want to be a part of the team to disrupt this industry and you have these main skills:

• 9+ years’ experience working in microservices architecture and design, building scalable, distributed systems in virtualized cloud environments
• Extensive understanding of Kafka, Azure, Kubernetes, Helm, and best practices around multithreading, networking, offline storage and performance tuning
• Expert level knowledge and understanding of at least one backend-oriented platform, and experience working with distributed systems and teams. Muse uses Go, NodeJS and Kotlin.
• Relevant experience with relational / non-relational databases (e.g. Mongo, Cassandra, BigQuery, etc.)
• Ability to design for fault tolerance and high availability.
• Solid devops skills in troubleshooting live applications, assessing performance bottlenecks of applications running on Linux
• Working knowledge and understanding of web and mobile software engineering principles. Muse uses Kotlin for Android and Angular 2+ for web.
• Excellent written and vocal communication and listening skills
• Ability to build products with focus on testability, someone who loves test coverage
• A disciplined approach to development, code review, testing, documentation, and code structure in a team environment.
• A constant desire to improve, learn more and take things to the next level and a passion for adopting the latest technology
• Bachelor/Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience or related field.
