Marketplace Manager – Direct to Consumer Specialty Brands

Specialty Brands include: Hayneedle, ART, and Allswell

The Walmart Home Specialty Brands team delights customers at three direct to consumer online businesses Art.com, Hayneedle.com and AllswellHome.com as well as through product development in omni retail channels. We are seeking a marketplace manager and influential business leader to help us define the future of the DTC Specialty Brand marketplaces. As a driving force towards the growing marketplace channel, you will be responsible for optimizing multiple brands thru the marketplace platforms that leverage the assortment strategies for both Hayneedle.com and ART.com and potentially Allswell. 

This is an exciting opportunity to leverage your deep knowledge in leveraging your marketplace management / analytical toolbox to drive customer engagement and conversion. You will oversee building the marketplace playbook as it pertains to meeting our top line and bottom-line goals.  The ideal candidate will have a growth mindset, deep passion for the customer and data driven insights and be able to anticipate what the marketplace customer needs throughout the year. This role will report to the Sr Merchandising Operations Manager of the Walmart Home Specialty Brands.

You’ll make an impact by:

  • Assortment Strategy & Management: Possess knowledge of: Assortment analytics sources and reports; assortment performance metrics; assortment management tools. To be able to carry out the following responsibilities: Works with merchants on assortment strategy and management for a specific category or department; follows processes and procedures for managing assortment quality; assists with the development of lists of assortment needs for a department or category; develops plans to address needs; records information used to assess assortment performance and opportunities; produces and uses basic reports.
  • Business Process Improvement: Possess Knowledge of: Process improvement processes and guidelines; problem-solving methodologies; process documentation resources and policies. To be able to carry out the following responsibilities: Participates in defining organizational strategic goals and purposes; defines strategies to gather and keep customers; analyzes business processes, identifies alternative solutions to outdated processes, and assesses feasibility; establishes requirements for large changes in the overall mission, roles, responsibilities, and processes necessary to make business improvements; evaluates financial, cultural, technological, and other factors; recommends new approaches that seek the use of advanced technology; works to overcome business process improvement resistance from managers, the labor force, and other groups.
  • Data Transformation & Integration: Possess knowledge of: Data quality guidelines; data customization techniques; data management tools; data transformation processes. To be able to carry out the following responsibilities: Extracts data from identified databases; creates data pipelines and transforms multiple data sources into usable data sets; develops knowledge of current data transformation processes; customizes transformed data sets for multiple audiences and reporting goals.
  • Partnership & Collaboration: Possess knowledge of: Stakeholder identification and mapping; stakeholder analysis; stakeholder communication; stakeholder engagement techniques; stakeholder management effectiveness tools and methods; fluency in specialized business vernacular. To be able to carry out the following responsibilities: Builds, maintains, and enhances effective internal and external partnerships; influences outcomes and assists in communicating shared goals with diverse groups and parties; identifies and addresses additional partner needs and educates them on value creation; communicates with other individuals or teams to solve shared problems; identifies how changes in business strategy impact talent and recruiting strategies; consults regularly with leaders of business unit(s) to advise on strategic decisions; brings ideas and solutions proactively to the business and team members; promotes diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
  • Strategic Business Acumen: Possess knowledge of: Industry, environmental, economic factors and competitors (for example, market fluctuations, changes in policies or politics, emerging technology, cultural practices); global business strategy; translating business knowledge into actionable insights; business management practices across multiple domains (for example, merchandise, supply chain marketing, sales, technology, business systems, human resources) and in-depth knowledge of company practices; business metrics (for example, fiscal financial targets, product sales, service line and operational budgets, technology spend). To be able to carry out the following responsibilities: Develops, evaluates, and implements proposed business cases for projects and initiatives; influences business stakeholder decision making; translates business requirements into strategies, initiatives, and projects, aligns them to the business strategy and objectives, and drives the execution of deliverables; demonstrates expertise of multiple business units/organizations being supported; builds and articulates the business case and return on investment; challenges business assumptions on topics related to assigned domain expertise; develops new, function-wide processes and ways of working; teaches and guides others on best practices; proactively engages in the external community to build Hayneedle, Art, Allswell brands and learn more about industry practices; supports and influences evidence-based decision making by objectively establishing requirements, identifying options, and selecting and recommending solutions to deliver services that provide value to business; recognizes and translates complex data into insights to support stakeholders and explain complex data in an easy to understand way; anticipates the relative positive and negative impacts of every aspect of financial management; participates in making business decisions based on financial forecasts and models.
  • Entrepreneurial Innovation: Possess knowledge of: Overall business targets for assigned product categories; assortment of products available across markets; customer preferences and demand patterns; market pricing and deals across suppliers; concepts like Minimum Viable Product. To be able to carry out the following responsibilities: Understands future customer needs to monitor market trends for assigned category and make recommendations; creates quarterly plans and enables implementation to achieve sourcing targets; recommends changes in merchandise assortment based on customer feedback and local market preferences/ seasonality; recommends changes in product mix, SKU mix, prices, and assortment based on customer feedback; identifies and assesses the value of adopting or adapting elements of business models from other industries.
  • Digital Literacy and Analytics: Possess knowledge of: Sources of relevant data; data analysis techniques; data dashboard tools (for example, Tableau); sources of industry trend information; spreadsheets, databases, and presentation software. To be able to carry out the following responsibilities: Leverages data analysis tools to explore simple data; performs basic statistical analysis; derives insights; and creates basic reports; identifies, implements, and drives technology change within scope of work; uses visualization tools to represent data and construct coherent stories to influence decisions; explains how customer analytics can enhance customer relationship management; helps others locate learning resources related to customer analytics; identifies the business units currently using customer analytics within the organization; describes the major initiatives that depend on customer analytics for successful outcomes; explains the relationship between statistical measurement and business improvement; explains measurements of business performance and how to identify trends; describes the technology and core applications used for tracking business performance and applying data to business decisions.

To be able to carry out the following responsibilities: Explains retail benchmarks and relates these to own organization; discusses company retail practices in relation to those of other organizations; compares and contrasts information sources; outlines organizational implications associated with major trends; analyzes trends associated with a variety of products, services, and markets; understands the dynamics that impact the market (for example, market fluctuations, changes in regulatory policies or politics, emerging technology, cultural practices).
