Director Merchandising, Specialty Brands, Hayneedle, ART, and Allswell

Are you excited to change the way people shop for home merchandise? Our customer obsessed team helps people discover, acquire and enjoy home goods that match their style at a great value. The Walmart Home Specialty Brands team delights customers at three direct to consumer online businesses Art.com, Hayneedle.com and AllswellHome.com as well as through product development in omni retail channels. The number one reason people join us is to be a part of a nimble, high-performing team doing omni merchandising at scale where they get direct connections with marketing, engineering and operations.

We are seeking a Director of Merchandising and influential business leader to help us define the future of commerce and retail. As the merchandising team leader you will be responsible for building multiple brands thru a comprehensive merchandising strategy vision that suits each brand; being at the helm of driving the integration and execution of your cut through assortment strategies for both all three brands; leading the site merchandising team giving vision and direction on how customers interact with our items and assortment; building cross-functional relationships with marketing, operations, engineering, business operations and finance.  This is an exciting opportunity to exercise your deep merchandising knowledge and passion leading teams, create new ways to delight customers and grow your career as part of a nimble and high-performing team. The ideal candidate will have a growth mindset, deep passion for the customer, and data driven insights and be able to anticipate what the customer needs throughout the year. This role will report to the President, Walmart Home Specialty Brands, have three direct reports and an entire team of at least eleven.  

You’ll sweep us off our feet if:

  • You enjoy working with multiple cross-functional collaborators and influencing them to drive your assortment and site merchandising vision.
  • You create a learning environment for your team and peer teams
  • You make trust a competitive advantage by serving the good of our communities and the environment by becoming a regenerative company while making real progress in the areas of equity and inclusion at Walmart and beyond.   
  • You have strong presentation skills with an exceptional ability to communicate ideas and findings to senior leaders.

You’ll make an impact by:

  • Driving the Specialty Brands merchandising and site merchandising teams: you’ll build strategies, manage KPIs, drive profitable growth, and use vision and creativity to impact the customer experience thru a compelling product offering merchandised well on our web properties.
  • Building relationships: you’ll use your incredible influencing and engaging leadership skills to build solid and productive partnerships with your merchant team, suppliers, vendors, business partners and other Walmart Omni Merchants leaders (all high visibility partnerships)
  • Making decisions: you’ll make decisions about nearly every aspect of the business including: assortment, positioning, execution pricing, replenishment, packaging, supply chain, manufacturers, store operations, layouts, budgets, store placements and site merchandising.
  • Designing, developing, and launching products: you’ll devise long-term strategies and marshal your team to coordinate new, exclusive, differentiated products for Hayneedle. Art.com and Allswell Home that serves the customer needs.
  • Inspiring and motivating a team: You’ll have direct reports and multiple peers who are the best in the business and looking for a leader to help make them all better.
  • Knowing your category: You’ll know your customers and suppliers in the home goods space better than anyone and are always thinking about what is next for your business

Minimum Qualifications                 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Merchandising, or related field and 3 years’ experience in merchandising, buying, financial planning, operations, or related area OR 5 years’ experience in merchandising, buying, financial planning, operations, or related area

Preferred Qualifications               

  • Master's degree in Business, Merchandising
  • 5+ years’ experience in retail merchandising
  • 5+ year’s supervisory experience
  • 5+ years’ experience negotiating with third-party suppliers
  • 3+ years’ experience managing teams
  • eCommerce experience
