Position Summary

Reporting to the Sr Director of Cloud Engineering, the Cloud Principal Architect - Software Engineer works closely with Infrastructure Engineering, Application Development and Operations teams to provide highly available and fault tolerant IaaS cloud services.

Using various automated tools, you will provide scalable and reliable solutions to manage Public and private clouds (compute, network and storage) within multiple disparate cloud infrastructures. Engineering interaction is a main focus of the Principal Architect role, working with customers to deploy cloud-based services will also be required. Additionally, the Cloud Principal Architect will own tasks to Designing, resolution, interfacing with Enterprise Architects, developers and support to escalate, reproduce, validate, debug or deploy software.

Responsibilities

• Design, Document, communicate, evangelize, advocate for, and optimize cross-functional Cloud/system-level designs

• Enable Application teams to follow best practices to deploy on Cloud Platforms

• Breach the communication gap between Infrastructure ( Cloud) and Applications

• Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation

• Create and maintain technical documentation for operational readiness

• Build, tune, troubleshoot and document systems in high availability clusters

• Design and maintain security best practices

• Design automation for host provisioning and other processes on various cloud platforms

• Become a solid contributor on our team, and build, extend and maintain some of the key infrastructure that powers our Public and Private Cloud platform

• Drive significant architectural decisions about the next iterations of our Public and Private Cloud that will improve efficiency and reduce spend

• Take ownership of important components of the architecture that power our Pubic and Private Cloud

• Provide troubleshooting expertise for virtualization performance and other issues

• Train and educate others within Technology about Cloud technologies.

• Solve business needs with technology by evaluating different technology options and vendor products.

• Travel may be required, up to 10% travel a year

Qualifications

In addition to being technically sound, results driven with a strong operational background and impressive analytical ability, you will need the following to be successful:

• Strong familiarity with any combination of the following: KVM, OpenStack, Azure, GCP, understanding of various cloud abstraction layers to select the right technology for our needs

• Linux/Unix expert, preferably within a production IaaS datacenter environment and familiar with industry best practices

• Experience with scripting (ruby/python/perl/shell/etc....)

• Solid Understanding of Service Monitoring, KPI, SLA, Disaster Recovery

• Experience building and operating a production data center environment

• Deep experience with the Linux command line, shell scripting, automation of common tasks, and configuration of systems monitoring tools

• Experience with capacity/performance management, monitoring and tuning

• Experience with firewalls, VPN, routing, switching, load balancers, monitoring, security and DNS

• Understanding of RDB, NoSQL and hardware configuration, Cloud PaaS services

• Strong knowledge of Client/Server Architectures, High Availability and N-Tier Systems

• Knowledge of systems management concepts, processes and standards

• Strong interpersonal skills to coordinate with other organizations across the business while managing customer expectations.

• Familiar with jira, and confluence products a plus

• Masters or bachelor's degree in CS or similar field of study OR work equivalent
