Senior Director, Product Management – Global Platform – Data Platforms

Walmart's Global Platform Product Organization:  

The Walmart Global Platform Product team manages the Platform portfolio capabilities to support Walmart's applications and infrastructure needs. The organization owns the platform products (Databases, Streaming, Big Data, Machine Learning, Metadata Tools, Common Application Components, CI/CD, Infrastructure, Edge, Networking, Public/Private Cloud, and Private Data Centers), vision, strategy, roadmap, and life cycle processes delivering scalable solutions to Walmart.

Key responsibilities of this team:

  • Translating applications team needs into product roadmap from platform organization

  • Building and unifying the Platform portfolio and looking at the Platform as a product 

  • Improve the overall product excellence, developer, and application teams’ experience in product adoption and usage.

  • Continuously innovate product capabilities based on the evolving application needs keeping scalability, availability, and high performance in mind. 

  • Measure and improve the critical business metrics to enhance ROI, the choice of build vs. buy, and adopting cutting technology products from the market.

Role:

Walmart is looking for a passionate product leader with in-depth engineering and product experience to work across multiple organizations and platform teams to innovate, build, and accelerate product adoption. Some of the key roles are:

  • Build, coach, and drive a high-performance Data product team that fosters an environment of focusing on building Data products for developers and applications teams that prioritizes features to maximize business value.​ 

  • Think, design, and build high return on investment through continuous improvement of product features with a clear roadmap and drive the engineering and architecture priorities.​ 

  • Provide a transparent and accurate total cost and utilization for each global product to manage consumption, mitigate risk, and drive efficiency.​

  • Improve product adoption by creating a seamless Data ecosystem.​ 

  • Build, develop, and guide high-performing talent for the Product organization.

  • Engage with leaders worldwide to build strategy and define priorities for the team to deliver the best services.

  • Create a collaborative environment across geographies that deliver the best services to customers around the globe.

  • Promote and support company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity.

  • Provide supervision, mentoring, and development opportunities for associates, engineering managers, and technologists. 

Your Opportunity

The Platform Product organization has the vision to provide a transformative, scalable, secure, and efficient Platform as a Product that brings business value to our customers. The organization offers a huge opportunity to streamline, innovate, and build the right Data products for a multi-cloud ecosystem. You will lead the Product Data Platforms team to drive the product innovations, adoption, and solutions to the applications team and developers across the globe. The products’ portfolio involves developing products for Hybrid Multi-Cloud. The team will look through the spectrum of products and drive consistency and standardization, which are cost-effective and provide business value to Walmart.

Your Responsibilities

  • Provide Data Product Evangelism and Technology leadership and vision.

  • Employ the best product management methodologies with a deep understanding of customers' requirements, customer experience, identify and fill product gaps, and generate new ideas that grow adoption, improve customer experience, and drive business growth.

  • Provide high-level strategy and framework to apply across the products’ portfolio to evaluate, build, and manage the Products.

  • Collaborate with platform engineering teams, drive product roadmap, and deliver quick time-to-market by prioritizing the activities and product requirements. 

  • Act as the brand ambassador of all the Data Platform portfolio products and drive adoption by providing solutions leveraging platform products across all Walmart segments.

  • Build a strong relationship with Walmart's different business segments, provide consulting and adoption services throughout the application development life cycle.

  • Provide the right architectural advice best practices in product adoption, help accelerate application development.

  • Collaborate with the enterprise architecture team to build patterns and blueprints, which can be reused and deployed across different business segments.

  • Evaluate overall performance by gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data and metrics.

  • Focus on generating intellectual property assets on operational support models, tools, and techniques implemented.

Your qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent

  • 15+ years of experience in engineering, support, and cutting edge product development space with excellent technology, consulting, and product knowledge

  • Strong hands-on knowledge in technology & product leadership of conceptualizing, incubating, and building multi-cloud products in the tier 0/1 products like Databases, Streaming, Hadoop, Spark, Large Scale Databases, Big Data, Machine Learning, Metadata Tools, and Telemetry Systems in the Private/Public cloud and edge environments.

  • Strong technical background with the capability of having a product design conversation with the engineering team and providing strategic thought leadership in shaping the product roadmap

  • Ability to connect with customers, build empathy by being “in their shoes” to understand their needs and translate them into product requirements with a clear articulation of benefits.

  • Experience in building large-scale high available, resilient platform products leveraging private and public data centers in cloud-native patterns that represent broad strategic initiatives

  • Sound understanding of architecturally significant requirements and practices in the implementation of high availability, resilient, high performance, and scalable solutions

  • Experience in hiring, coaching, and managing a team of high potential platform product managers

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, good with people, ability to negotiate and drive the tough conversations in influencing the product adoption

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment in managing technology-intensive, time-sensitive, geographically dispersed product support organizations across multiple locations and multiple domains.

  • A proven ability to manage ambiguity and preparedness to get things done
