Senior Director of Software Engineering - Walmart Global Technology 

Come and lead a small, fast-moving team of bright, prolific engineers who help thousands of others achieve step-function improvements in efficiency, reliability, and productivity for hundreds of applications at one of the world’s largest and most valuable companies and beyond. 

Walmart's multi-cloud compute and data ecosystem combines the strengths of public cloud, private infrastructure, open source, and commercial products to empower application developers with the industry’s best offerings and integrated experiences at massive scale, across vendors, geographies, and footprints. 

Our job is to find ways to simplify and accelerate delivery of increasingly sophisticated business capabilities by creating and launching new products and features that advance the state of the art in multi-cloud native computing to disrupt the global retail value chain.

You’ll sweep us off our feet if… 

  • You partner with other thought leaders to catalyze change on a company or industry scale 
  • You have a track record working directly with cloud vendors to shape adoption criteria and work through challenges of cross-cloud integrations and symmetrical deployments.
  • You foster deep partnership and support among engineering leaders through clarity of vision and the ability to create common value to generate organizational momentum.
  • You have pioneered breakthrough applications, services, and platforms for large, complex organizations 

What you'll do... 

  • Help senior leaders understand the context and motivations for our technical decisions 
  • Inspire users and stakeholders to viral adoption and active promotion of our offerings 
  • Lead a team of senior engineers driving high-impact, rapid, incremental maturity, and growth of Walmart’s multi-cloud platform.
  • Foster a team culture of creativity and hands-on solutioning to tackle multi-cloud complexities such as symmetrical deployments and cross-cloud resiliency, observability, and latency mitigation.
  • Lead implementation of our novel technologies and concepts to the point of sustained impact 

What you'll bring... 

  • A clear vision for architecture and exceptional communication skills to articulate it to all levels of stakeholders
  • Technical depth rooted in hands on experience across the breadth of modern software technology domains
  • Extensive experience in the design, development, and delivery of software products with a massive customer base
  • Strong track record in a strategic technical leadership role with large-scale software development projects
  • A clear vision for architecture and exceptional communication skills to articulate it to all levels of stakeholders
  • Excellent decision-making skills with the ability to balance conflicting interests in a complex and fast-paced environment 
  • Thorough understanding of distributed technologies, public cloud technologies, and data structures and algorithms 
  • Experience in hiring, coaching, and managing a team of high potential platform engineers
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to negotiate and drive the tough conversations in influencing engineering decisions
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment in managing technology-intensive, time-sensitive, geographically dispersed engineering organizations across multiple locations and multiple domains.
  • A proven ability to manage ambiguity and preparedness to get things done
  • Business acumen, combining technical vision with business insights 
  • An advanced degree in Computer Science or a related discipline
