Staff Software Engineer –  Hands-On Full-Stack Design Architect (Node.js)

We are looking for a Full-Stack Design Architect (Staff Software Engineer) to add to our Digital Transformation Services team within our Enterprise Business Service area. This role will lead the technical architecture and design for our team for a team of 7-9 software developers. We are looking for a technical leader that can set standards and best practices, guide design and architecture, and raise our technical bar for software quality.    

In this role, you will partner with other Technology Solution Leads, business partners, and product owners to analyze business problems and requirements and produce optimal solutions making the most impact to our business. Our architectural solutions are built in node.js often coupled with machine learning and a background in data so a deep knowledge of high-level machine learning / data engineering is a big plus. This role will also be interacting with information security, cloud provisioning and other teams that set standards within Walmart so we need someone that is able to communicate effectively across multiple orgs.
 

In this role, 60% of your time will be focused on design and architecture, leading code reviews, and mentoring within the team while still 40% being hands-on within development. This role is expected to work across ML and product teams, be able to communicate effectively across technical teams, run proof of concepts and never shy away from stating their own opinion even though it may sound adverse in a specific circumstance. We value engineers who have data-oriented approach to making decisions.

• Are eager to stay up to date in the latest software solutions with a background in Node.js and React

• Have broad experience within Cloud Deployment specifically Azure

• T-type knowledge base, broad technological exposure and experience and thorough and deep understanding of few technologies. Open source and/or Microsoft development stack is highly desirable.

• You are always looking for patterns, be able to connect dots. Business problems do not come in silo.

• Enjoy 2-way communication with stakeholders, be their trusted partner

• Look at multiple solutions, tactical, strategic and anything in between

• Broad technology outlook, open to experimentation, fail fast attitude

• Paint a big picture, not just solve a problem but how can a solution be utilized again

You’ll make an impact by:

• Creating software design and architecture solutions from the ground-up implementing next generation software solutions. This will be your channel to communicate your ideas with rest of the team. Not just one but evaluate multiple solutions for best results

• Analyzing competing requirements and articulate tradeoffs while lead discussions with business and development team.

• Be an advocate of best practice, be it code, test, or DevOps. Experience in establishing such practices

• You will help create reference architecture that fits Walmart’s tech ecosystem

• Data based approach for proving point and making decisions

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and 4 years’ experience in software engineering or related field OR 6 years’ experience in software
engineering or related field.
