West Monroe is looking for a Technical Writer to join the Technology Learning & Enablement team within the Information & Collaboration Technology (ICT) department. The goal of our team is to improve employee performance and business results through supporting learning of the software and technology at West Monroe. We are currently building the foundation of our long-term plan by developing how-to articles for the key job tasks users perform in the core software and technology at West Monroe. This position will play a critical role in helping in the development of these articles. As the team reaches a solid foundation of the how-to articles, we look to expand our educational offerings by designing and developing educational videos, instructor-led training courses, e-learning courses, and other learning artifacts.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct content-gathering sessions with business and technical subject matter experts.
  • Draft detailed step-by-step instructions on how to perform key job tasks in the software/technology.
  • Standardize instructions by using templates and adhering to defined standards and guidelines.
  • Confirm and/or update the step-by-step instructions by testing them in the software/technology.
  • Coordinate the review of materials by subject matter experts and other key stakeholders.
  • Construct the MVP (Minimum Viable Product) of the how-to article using the ScreenSteps authoring tool.
  • Construct upgraded how-to articles by capturing screenshots and adding visual elements (captions, highlight boxes, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • 2 years of work experience in writing technical artifacts
  • Deep proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Proficiency in spoken/written English
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to deal with people at all levels
  • Comfortable working independently but able to collaborate in a team

Bonus items (nice-to-have):

  • Inherent curiosity to figure out how software works and how it can be used more effectively and efficiently
  • Instructional design education or experience
  • Information design education or experience
  • Master’s degree or equivalent
  • Experience with SnagIt, Camtasia, or Captivate
