It is a great place to work if you are a working mother- and have to leave early ocassionally for children being sick, etc. and you want to work as an office assistant, HR, or as a technical chemical engineer in the main office, as opposed to out in the plant. But they mainly hire new engineers right out of school, so at a senior level the work is not challenging or interesting and there is no room to grow. Out in operations as a department or maintenance engineer - women aren't really in those positions, or quickly leave after a year or so.

  • Recommend to Women?

Maybe. I would recommend women to work for the company in ancillary functions, such as HR, lab, QC, but not in technical operations or engineering roles.

  • One Thing Employer Could Improve

Improve work-life balance and policies (e.g. flex-time, limit facetime)

Never give up & stand your ground. You can do anything that a guy can do. Worked at several different offices. Once you have worked at one location long enough, you're part of the team. Another office I worked at felt like family right away and was treated like one of guys. The one I work at now, feels like a good ol boys club & a girl is the red headed stepchild. It won't always be that way. Just takes time for the guys to not be so intimidated by a woman that can do their job even better than they can. Never give up, trust your intuition when going the the interview. Know that eventually you will be accepted.

It is a physical and mental job. I wish I had been more prepared for the men I worked with. Not all men are responsive to a woman doing the same job as them. Some men feel threatened by women doing such a job.
