My supervisors would need to create a nontoxic environment that values diversity of ideas and input that isn't a carbon copy of their viewpoint. It would value creative approaches and not try to wedge employees into set patterns of working.

Maybe. Your experience at this university completely revolves on which boss you happen to get. The policies are all in place to promote equity, but certain directors have implicit bias toward women, minorities and even people who don't have certain academic degrees.
