If you are single with no children, Vanguard could be a great place for you. I struggled with equality as a mother.

All exempt level positions are pretty flexible but non-exempt or client facing roles are less accomodating. The Charlotte office is mainly non-exempt, client facing roles.

    6 paid / 3 unpaid

My direct supervisor called me serveral times while on leave asking when I was coming back to work. I found out from Human Resources after the fact that this was aganist company policy. In addition, I struggled to get adequate time off of the phones to pump and there were only two mother rooms.

Maybe. If they are willing to be paid less than their male counterparts, they can gain experience at a reputable company, and climb the corporate ladder rather quickly.

This is dependent upon your role and the division that you work within. Some departments/roles have a lot of flexibility and others do not.

They offer salary continuation which provides a number of paid weeks, the balance can be offset with one's personal vacation or sick time.

Ibm used to be very flexible... now they are going back to old models and discouraging flexibility like work at home options.

Typical healthcare bureaucracy. Women mostly make up the workforce but very little of the management.

Don't stay in a position for too long. Know when it's time to look within the company or move on.

In my field you'd have a problem with kids and family if you don't have a support from someone else, even though company has 6 months of parental leave for women. In the beginning and in the end of months we work overtime, after 10 PM because we provide coverage for Mexico country (difference of 4 hours). We can work from home sometimes but flexible time is something we almost don't have (mainly because of our workload). However, if you're single and don't have kids, you have a great company to work at in matters of professional development (but maybe will also have issues with work-lige balance).

I have yet to experience first hand the need for maternity leave, I hear that it relatively fair. There is an abundance of sexual harassment that goes unpunished or unreported for fear of retaliation. There are women in leadership roles including at the regional level. But males do dominate the positions throughout the company.

Maybe. Though it is a pretty male dominated company, there are a lot of women in leadership positions. Though sexual harassment claims tend to get swept under the rug. I am not ok with this, but need to support my family and fear that other work environments would be similar but with less benefits. So I survive through it and continue to notify the appropriate channels when the instances arise.
