Vivica A. Fox is a household name. The actress left her hometown of Indianapolis at age 17 and immediately began living out her acting dreams, and she hasn't slowed down since. Here, the author of the forthcoming memoir "Everyday I'm Hustling," to be published by St. Martin's Press next week — and our Fairygodboss of the Week — reveals the secret to making your own luck and thriving in your career.

Tell us a little about your career. How did you get to where you are now?
Well, I left my hometown of Indianapolis, Indiana when I was 17 years old, one month after graduating high school, and I've been blessed to live out my dreams beyond my wildest expectations. I've worked with the most amazing actors and traveled the world doing awesome projects!
What is an accomplishment that you are proud of?
I'm most proud of the fact that I've been doing what I LOVE for close to 30 years. I'm still here!
What is a challenge that you've faced and overcome?
My biggest challenge has been to learn to focus on what I'm doing right instead of focusing on and finding what I did wrong. I was waayyy to critical of myself.
Who is YOUR Fairygodboss? and Why?
I would LOVE to work with Pam Greer. We could do a great cop team movie. Fingers crossed!
What do you do when you're not working?
When I'm not working I am at the spa getting massages and taking care of my spirit and skin. I also love spending time with my Godchildren.
If you could have dinner with one famous person—dead or alive—who would it be?
Micheal Jackson is my dream dinner date. He was SOO talented and creative. I miss him TONS!

What is your shopping vice? What would you buy if you won the lottery?
I love jewelry! Love my bling! If I won the lottery I would get my family members their dream home completely decorated with a dream car.
What is the #1 career tip you'd like to share with other women who want to have successful careers like you?
I always tell upcoming actors to STUDY. Be a triple threat. Be able to sing, dance and act. Nowadays you never know what the job will require.
Why do you love where you work?
I love where I work because it's constantly changing. Last week I was in Romania and Empire films in Chicago and my hairline shoots in Philadelphia, and last year I filmed Bring It On 6 in beautiful Capetown, South Africa.
