Welcome to I Love My Job, the series where we hear from real women who really love their jobs. In this edition, we sat down with Marissa Horne, the Vice President of Financial Services, Technology, Strategy and Governance at Capital One.
This isn’t the only role she plays at Capital One, either! Horne also acts as both the Diversity Inclusion and Belonging Champion for Financial Services, Tech and Data and the Accountable Executive for VOICES, which is their Black business resource group in Dallas. In this way, she gets to bring her whole self to work.
“Both roles have really given me the opportunity to work with a myriad of stakeholders, including some of our community partners,” Horne shares. “It's been great to see how Capital One shows up in the communities where we work and live.”
In the video below, Horne shares more on why she’s loved working at Capital One. We also provide lightly edited highlights from the video discussion in the following article.

Can you tell us what you find most exciting about your work?

One of the things that I find most exciting about being at Capital One is the fact that we are a technology company that does banking. It's really interesting to see how we are pushing the technology innovation curve in ways that you don't typically see in financial services. [For instance,] we are 100% committed to the Cloud to build and deploy software.

How would you describe the culture at Capital One?

The culture of Capital One is incredibly anchored around teamwork and collaboration. We have perfected what we call the art of the push and pull, which is when a group of smart people come together from diverse backgrounds to work on a common set of goals and solve really interesting problems.
This is truly where the magic happens at Capital One.

How does Capital One support you in regards to career advancement and work-life balance?

Work-life balance and career development are paramount to the way we work here at Capital One
For example, in terms of career development, we have biannual performance reviews, but that is in addition to intentional career development sessions with people leaders.
From a work-life balance perspective, Capital One has given me the flexibility to be the mom that I want to be, as well as to support some of the community service activities that are important to me. I believe that I've actually been able to achieve the work-life balance I need to be the best person at home as well as at work.

What advice do you have for women looking for jobs at Capital One?

Do it! Capital One is full of people who are really smart and really committed to your success. This is a place that is going to drive you to learn, to grow and to really become your best self. So, if you get the opportunity to join Capital One, I would encourage you to take it.
