When it comes to visibility, everyone wants it, your business needs it, and, quite frankly, you deserve it. But if you don’t know how to capture it, you can’t use it to its full potential. I’ve compiled a list of seven hacks that will help you get the visibility you want, need, and deserve.

1. Become unapologetic about who you are.

I often see women, in particular, hide behind who they are. They’re afraid to call themselves an expert, because “surely someone out there knows more than me on this topic.” Claiming and owning your title is necessary to be seen by your customers as a true expert.

2. Give free value, and then give free value again.

When it comes to showcasing who you are and why you are an expert, giving value is the easiest way to allow that knowledge to shine through. Imagine if your clients are looking at your work and asking themselves, “if this is what she gives away for free, what is it going to be like when I pay her?”

3. Pitch yourself.

There are now more than 2 million podcasts in the world, on top of that, there are countless publications, TV shows, websites, etc., that cater to your ideal customer. Where are they getting their information and how can you get a featured spot on that media outlet? Pitch yourself to the powers that be and show you can offer value to their outlet.

4. Show up online, consistently, week after week.

Consistency is the most underrated strategy on social media. When you start showing up on social media platforms consistently, the algorithm rewards you. Think about it like referring a hairstylist to your friends — you aren’t going to refer them if they only work one day a month. The algorithm wants to reward creators that are showing up for their users.

5. Toot that horn.

If you don’t do it, who will? No one. So how will anyone know about the great work you’re doing? They won’t. If you aren’t already doing this, make it your goal to be comfortable sharing factual information about yourself. People hesitate to share their wins because they feel like they’re bragging, but when you understand that the knowledge of your wins is solely in your hands, you become empowered to share it.

6. Harness the power of seven.

It takes seven exposures to a message in order for someone to want to click the buy button. I find that women get frustrated after sharing a product launch two or three times. The truth is, not everyone who follows you will see your content, and not everyone who “sees” your content is actually paying 100% attention to your message. Don’t be afraid to reiterate your message — you are the only one that knows you’ve shared it before.

7. A parasocial relationship is powerful and real.

A parasocial relationship is a psychological effect that comes from viewing someone online via video and feeling like you have a close relationship with them, but you may have never even met them before. This is similar to seeing celebrities in real life and having to stop yourself from waving to them because while you remember their children’s birthdays and favorite foods, they have no clue who you are. When you show up online via video, you can create this same type of relationship with your social media followers.

Getting visibility doesn’t have to be as extreme as landing a feature on The Today Show. It can start with simple habits that start in your own online community and can grow to meaningful and powerful connections. Don’t underestimate the power of nailing visibility within your own community, first.
