Christina, a senior associate in Corporate Communications at Capital One, has always said yes to new opportunities.

That desire to explore has allowed her to embrace different careers at Capital One, going from customer-facing to internal roles. Capital One has supported her every step of the way, nurturing her different passions and equipping her with the skills to succeed.

“Capital One is betting on you,” Christina said. “But you also have to bet on yourself and be your authentic self.”

Career advancement through internal programs

Christina’s career at Capital One began in 2013 at a call center, helping customers with financial questions and forming meaningful relationships over the phone. There, she discovered her passion for communication and connection. She followed this interest and moved to a position as a Capital One Café ambassador. In addition to traditional banking support, Café ambassadors build connections with the local community and promote financial well-being.

During this time, Christina learned about Capital One’s Catalyst Rotational Program. Catalyst is an internal program in which production leaders complete two year-long rotations across diverse roles while developing their skills and receiving executive coaching. Encouraged by her mentors, Christina joined Catalyst and spent a year working in platform operations process engineering and another in Corporate Communications.

“Catalyst was a major turning point in my career,” Christina said. “It helped me grow my voice more and advocate for myself and others.”

A love for communication

It was during her rotation with Corporate Communications that Christina found her calling. She loved the opportunity to write meaningful, effective stories about Capital One’s work and leadership for both customers and associates. She transitioned from Catalyst to a full-time role in Corporate Communications in 2023, where she draws inspiration from her time working in customer-facing roles.

“Those experiences taught me how to write stories that put people first,” Christina said. “It doesn’t matter if it’s about a new associate or a senior-level level leader. Everyone that I write for will be treated with respect.”

This passion for storytelling has carried into leadership opportunities with VOICES, Capital One’s Business Resource Group (BRG) for Black associates and allies. She’s been a member since joining Capital One, and has always supported their mission to uplift Black associates and allies. Recently, she stepped up to the national communications co-lead position after a recommendation from her Catalyst mentors.

Whether it’s serving an internal group or writing impactful stories for customers and associates, Christina has been open to every opportunity – and supported along the way.

“Any time I want to take a chance, Capital One is there to support me,” Christina said. “You’re able to learn new skills you need and amplify skills you have. They really invest in your career.”
