Wouldn’t it be great to be able to say that bias does not exist in your workplace’s hiring process? I get it, we all want to be able to say that. Especially if we have recently made a public commitment to increasing diversity within our individual organizations.
Increasing diversity requires dismantling bias and inequity in your hiring process. To support your journey, #TeamJTC created an infographic outlining 3 steps you can take to dismantle bias and inequity in your hiring process.

The disproportionate hit that Covid-19 dealt to female workers is set to endure, with men’s employment recovering more quickly than women’s, according to the International Labour Organization.
There will be 13 million fewer women working this year than in 2019, while men will have succeeded in recouping the crisis-induced losses, the Geneva-based body estimated in a report. The ILO urged governments to enact policies that focused on job creation and retention that benefited women, particularly in sectors like health care and education.

America’s racial reckoning, spurred by the killing of George Floyd last May, has inspired companies to increasingly take public stances on social justice issues.
Some corporations, such as Citigroup and Yelp, have demonstrated their support through monetary donations. Others have sought to address their role in perpetuating injustices, with several companies, including Amazon and Goldman Sachs, setting company-wide diversity goals. Last June, IBM said it would no longer sell facial recognition software to law enforcement after seeing the biases within the flawed technology. Later that month, Quaker Oats announced it would redesign its 130-year-old Aunt Jemima brand, which had been based on a racial stereotype. Even still, Americans say there’s much work to be done.

One of the top headlines of post-pandemic rebuilding is the shortage of talent, including entry-level labor and leadership pipelines. But is the talent shortage the real issue or a surface manifestation of a deeper problem? Perhaps other workplace concerns might give us some clues:
People who were raised poor are less likely to be hired.
Even “egalitarian advocates” discriminate against older generations,
Google made headlines by firing Black women leaders and losing its partnership with the HBCU graduates’ network.
Asian-Americans often are not recognized as potential leaders.
The unemployment rate of autistic college graduates remains close to 85% even though they can be up to 140% more productive than typical employees when properly matched to jobs.
This does not look like a talent problem. This looks like a problem with recognizing talent.

“In order for individuals who come from underrepresented groups or different backgrounds, in order to feel attracted to a company, you have to be able to see that you will be seen there and there’s a place for you,” says Loni Olazaba, the Director of Inclusion Recruiting at LinkedIn.

As part of a larger emphasis on recruitment marketing for diversity recruiting, Fairygodboss quested to pull together the best and most effective strategies, best practices, and tools that actually help companies attract underrepresented talent.
