Even if it can feel like an isolating experience, believe it or not, 37% of women take a career pause at some point in their lives. Whether its to take care of family, fulfill a dream experience or raise kids, there's no wrong way to take a career break — but there are wrong ways to restart your career.
Erika Park Price spent 13 years in a career "pause" before relaunching herself into a traditional job and starting the Ready Pause Go community and podcast. Now, she's helping women relaunch their careers the right way: with an army of supporters behind them and the knowledge to move forward confidently. She's launched a Ready Pause Go group in the FGB Community, which offers not only a supportive group of women to ask your questions, but also resources and advice from Park Price herself. You can join for free with your Fairygodboss account. Don't have an account? Sign up and be sure to fill out your profile for more groups recommendations. Interested in learning more? Park Price shared a bit of her history and motivations for Ready Pause Go, along with how her community helps women press "Go" on their dream career.
Who are you? Tell us about your career, your passions and anything else we should know!
I divide my career into three phases. "Ready" was the 12 years I spent working in high tech, "Pause" was the 13 years I spent home raising my family and pursuing my passion for writing and "Go" is the last 3 years (and beyond) when I relaunched myself into a traditional job and went on to start the Ready Pause Go community and podcast.
What inspired you to start this group? If this isn't a new group, when did you start it?
I launched the Ready Pause Go community in January 2019 for the 37% of women who take a career pause at some point. While 93% want to return to work, only 73% actually do and only 40% ever return full-time. There are millions of women on the sidelines because they don't know how to return, aren't sure what they want to do, can't find the flexibility they need or because they've had doors shut in their face.
Who is this group best suited for?
Women who pause their careers — either those currently on pause or contemplating taking one.
Is there an IRL (in real life) version of your group?
www.readypausego.com is my website and the Ready Pause Go podcast comes out weekly on all major podcast apps.
What part of FGB Groups are you most excited about?
There are millions of women who could benefit from the message about using your career pause to develop your full potential. I want to reach all of them, and FGB Groups is a prime opportunity to do that!
If you could get one celebrity to join your group, who would it be and why?
Just one?? I'd say Serena Williams, Melinda Gates, Adele, Sutton Foster (Younger) and Senator Patty Murray.
If you could describe the vibe of your group in three words or less, what would the words be?
Passion, purpose and path.
How can the FGB community get involved with your group?
Join the group, post a question, support other women and share your story.
