“We are shaping the future of global markets,” says Courtney Jorgensen, SVP, Talent, Diversity and Inclusion at Donnelley Financial Solutions (DFIN). DFIN provides software and service solutions that enable clients to meet their regulatory and compliance obligations. “DFIN is in the process of reinventing itself as a top-tier software and service provider in our space. This makes DFIN entrepreneurial and trailblazing in an established industry.”

With award-winning solutions and a client-centric approach to service, Jorgensen tells Fairygodboss that the company stands out. DFIN is also committed to their people, she says.

“DFIN has expanded benefits, such as parental leave, that support both moms and dads in the workplace,” she explains. “DFIN has also committed to diverse candidate slates throughout the recruiting process. We’ve moved to a fully flex model that allows our people to work from anywhere supporting a better work-life balance. We have women in senior leadership roles across the organization that serve as informal mentors. And 37% of our global workforce are female, while approximately 30% of DFIN’s independent Board of Directors are female.”

It’s no wonder why women love working at DFIN. To learn more, we recently caught up with Jorgensen.

What career development opportunities can women job seekers expect at DFIN? How is career pathing approached?

DFIN is in the early stages of rolling out a new career framework built upon the premise that no matter your position or job title, you are part of our collective genius and should have access to the tools, information, and resources to grow your career.  We cultivate an environment in which employees are encouraged to acquire new skills and take on significant projects that impact the organization.  We are also creating a culture of transparency in which managers and employees have meaningful and frank conversations about career paths.

Is there anything else women should know about pursuing a career here?
Women should know that there are great opportunities for development and advancement.  At DFIN, we have had successful, long-tenured women continue to take on new challenges and grow.  For example, a woman VP who had been instrumental in the success of one product line for more than 14 years recently assumed leadership over a completely new product line that is critical to the company’s success.  At the same time, there is a strong pipeline of women leaders who are newer to the organization: In 2020, over 40% of our hires and promotions were women and minorities.

What are some unique benefits or perks DFIN offers employees?
DFIN offers competitive salaries, above-average paid time off, parental and military leave and flexible work arrangements. When the company does well, it shares that success with employees.  DFIN performed well in 2020 and provided a 401(k) match to U.S. employees as well as a special discretionary bonus reflecting company and individual performance.

What’s something that you think most people (perhaps even current employees) don’t know about DFIN that you think they should?
It’s a very exciting time to be on the ground floor of a major transformation.  2021 marks an exciting milestone for the company: for the first time in our history, we expect our sales from software solutions to exceed our sales from print and distribution.  As we continue our journey as the leading provider of innovative, expert-supported financial software solutions, it is important to draw upon the different perspectives, insights, and experiences of our employees.  Employees came together as a DEI Task Force to recommend that the company create a permanent DEI Council to formally support and champion initiatives.  The DEI Council was recently launched and is supported by senior leadership.

What’s one thing DFIN does — whether a formal policy or program, or more in terms of office culture — that you think is particularly unique or unexpected?
DFIN nurtures a collaborative culture that is forward-looking.  We pursue innovative and unconventional solutions, and we pivot faster than most companies in order to navigate constantly changing conditions.

What do employees say about working at DFIN?
DFIN periodically surveys its employees to gauge sentiment and feedback on important topics, such as wellbeing and returning to the workplace.  In a recent survey in which more than 55% of employees responded, they agreed with the statement “I feel proud to work at DFIN,” on a scale of 3.91/5 and they agreed with the statement “I feel that my manager and leader treats me with dignity and respect,” on a scale of 4.29/5.
