As a company that creates the data storage solutions that power the technology of today and inspire the innovations of tomorrow, Western Digital prides themselves on being a company of problem solvers — one that boasts a 50-year history of innovation. After all, the company marks the birthplace of society’s first-ever commercial Hard Disk Drive and the first 96-layer 3D NAND.

“We live everywhere data lives,” Western Digital says. “The most game-changing companies, consumers, professionals, and governments come to us for the technologies and solutions they need to capture, preserve, access, and transform their data.”

From energizing the most competitive gaming platforms and safeguarding cities to making cars smarter and powering the data centers behind many of the world’s biggest companies and public cloud, Western Digital is fueling the future. And they can’t innovate, thrive and disrupt without their diverse and hardworking team.

“The broad backgrounds and specialties of our engineers and data scientists have defined our broad range of products from hardware and software to data center and consumer data storage,” the company says.

In this article, we take a look at this innovative company and why employees love being part of the Western Digital team.

Your look inside Western Digital’s inclusive culture.

Western Digital makes diversity and inclusion a top priority. “We thrive on the power and potential of diversity,” the company says. “As a global company, we believe the most effective way to embrace the diversity of our customers and communities is to mirror it from within. We believe the fusion of various perspectives results in the best outcomes for our employees, our company, our customers, and the world around us. We are committed to an inclusive environment where every individual can thrive through a sense of belonging, respect and contribution.”

As part of their emphasis on inclusion, Western Digital provides business resource groups to help employees build relationships and connections, foster a sense of belonging and develop ways to support the business. The company’s seven employee networks include 20 global chapters with groups in India, China, Israel, Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines.

Unconscious bias training is another big part of their diversity and inclusion efforts. In 2021, Western Digital successfully delivered in-person unconscious bias training to more than 1,500 managers in the United States and trained 99% of their U.S, employees in unconscious bias and anti-discrimination. This training is now required of all new hires across the country.

In regards to women in the workforce, at Western Digital, women lead at every level, making up 59% of the workforce and half of the board of directors. That’s largely thanks to the global Advancing Women in Leadership program and professional groups like the Women’s Impact Network, We.WIN and She Invents. The company also partners with external organizations, like Fairygodboss, to recruit, retain and promote women across all levels of their careers.

As a result of their efforts, women at Western Digital feel empowered to direct their own careers. “My manager has given me the opportunity to navigate my own success and career development,” says Claire, a Product Design Engineer. “I'm fortunate to have a lot of freedom in my role, along with the guidance to advance my career.”

And the company’s efforts are recognized more widely as well — Western Digital was named by Women’s Choice as a top company for millennial talent.

Benefits at Western Digital that we think you’ll love.

“Western Digital recognizes the need to support employees to do their best work depending on business needs and personal circumstances,” the company says. While it does not have a formal flexible work policy, employees do have the potential to work out flex arrangements and, depending on the organization and manager, part-time work is possible.

Other benefits include everything from up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave and daycare discounts to designated private lactation spaces at all office locations, elder care resources, health care and more.
