Prior to her engagement to Prince Harry, Meghan operated a lifestyle website called The Tig. In addition to party-throwing advice and holiday-shopping lists, The Tig ran stories on affordable style, featuring chic items at attainable prices for the bulk of its readership. Although she’s now constantly dressed by high-end designers, the Duchess of Sussex proved that she can spot a good fashion deal and appreciate the value.

As for Serena, she recently launched her own fashion brand, aptly called “Serena”. The line includes a mix of athleisure, vintage-inspired denim, and slinky cocktail dresses, and the prices range from $25-250, proving that Serena, like her friend Meghan, prioritizes accessible style.

2. They're both strong advocates for women.

Another admirable similarity between Meghan and Serena? Both self-identify as feminists and use their public platforms to advocate for causes that support and empower women.

Before her marriage, Meghan served as UN Women advocate, attending conferences and traveling to remote destinations to work on behalf of women’s health and gender equality. She also worked with One Young World to promote feminist causes in developing nations, and she travelled to Afghanistan as a member of the USO, declaring that “I’ve never wanted to be a lady who lunches. I’ve always wanted to be a woman who works.”

Friendships differ depending on the people involved, but they all have a few things in common. One of the most important? A willingness to stand by your friend’s side during major life events. And Meghan and Serena definitely have that part down.

Serena famously attended Meghan’s May wedding to Prince Harry, clad in a gorgeous pink Versace dress and a very occasion-appropriate hat.
