    Position summary

    ve grocery retail brands (Food Lion, Giant Food, Hannaford, Stop & Shop and The Giant Company) with locations in 18 states and the District of Columbia and their related supply chain companies. This attorney will report to the VP, Deputy General Counsel - Strategic Transactions & Technology. The Senior Counsel will work collaboratively and with minimal supervision as part of a fast-paced and specialized legal team to address complex issues and deliver practical and strategic business-focused advice; expert legal drafting, manage transactions and other legal matters; monitor and advise businesses on relevant legal developments; deliver presentations and training; manage special projects; and serve on cross-functional teams.

    Our flexible/ hybrid work schedule includes 3 in-person days at one of our core locations and 2 remote days. Our core office locations include Salisbury, NC, Quincy, MA, Carlisle, PA, and Scarborough, ME.

    Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    Legal Advice and Support:

    • Provide expert legal advice to enable the Companies to achieve real estate and m&a business objectives while operating within legal parameters.

    • Negotiation and drafting of commercial real estate and m&a agreements for a wide variety of transaction types, including purchase and sale agreements, new store leases, outparcel and pad leases, small shop leases, warehouse leases, development agreements, construction contracts, easements, access agreements, SNDAs, asset purchase agreements and related documents.

    • Advise on a wide range of related matters, including title, environmental, land development issues, construction matters, antitrust and competition law.

    • Actively manage outside counsel engaged on certain transactions.

    • Coach and mentor and develop junior attorneys and legal professionals engaged with the subject matter.

    Dispute Resolution:

    • Collaborate cross-functionally to manage real estate related disputes, including defaults, CAM and tax audits.

    Training and Compliance:

    • Proactively monitor relevant legal developments; regulatory, industry, and business trends; and real estate and M&A-related topics relevant to the Companies.

    • Promote communication and awareness of legal developments, compliance issues, and requirements, and best practices.

    • Conduct training on real estate and M&A law matters.

    Other Responsibilities:

    • Provide input on proposed legislation, potential impacts on business, and implementation issues.

    • Manage special projects and serve on cross-functional teams.

    • Advise on and participate in internal audits.

    • Contribute to regular functional and corporate reporting.

    Qualifications

    • J.D. degree

    • State bar license

    • 7+ years of relevant experience practicing law
