    Product Communications Senior Manager

    What you will do

In this vital role you will lead the development and implementation of communications initiatives that advance Amgen's medicine for Thyroid Eye Disease (TED), with a focus on HCP communications strategies to elevate awareness and engagement across the endocrinology and ophthalmology communities.

    You will report to the Senior Director, Product Communications (Rare Disease) and manage the Manager, Product Communications (Rare Disease) dedicated to TED. You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional partners (e.g., marketing, medical affairs, advocacy, clinical) to drive visibility through HCP-facing content, programs, and platforms, as well as consumer and patient community efforts.

    This role will preferably be based in Deerfield/Chicago, IL (hybrid). Remote positions may be considered.

    Responsibilities

    Develop and implement integrated communications strategies that support brand objectives, with distinct tracks for HCP and patient engagement. Collaborate with commercial, medical, and advocacy teams.

    Lead HCP communications efforts, including:

    • Partnering with medical affairs to disseminate clinical data and treatment innovations.

    • Creating materials to support scientific exchange, KOL engagement, and speaker bureau communications.

    • Elevating Amgen's presence in professional forums and symposia (e.g., ENDO, AAO).

    • Supporting branded and unbranded HCP awareness initiatives across digital, social, and print media.

    • Crafting HCP-specific messaging and FAQs in alignment with approved claims and scientific data.

    Amplify brand presence across HCP channels, such a medical journals, industry trade publications, webinars and education events

    Foster TED community engagement through social media, especially for patient audiences, including:

    • TED and TEPEZZA social pages (emphasis on Facebook and Instagram)

    • Content creation, curation, and community management

    • Video content, including live events and testimonials

    • Influencer mapping and engagement

    • Performance optimization and analytics

    Lead patient awareness campaigns and partnerships with advocacy organizations. Work closely with Amgen's Patient Advocacy Team to ensure all patient communications reflect lived experiences and offer valuable resources.

    Provide strategic direction to the product communications manager for both HCP and patient engagements, including:

    • Social media programming

    • Scientific congress support

    • Awareness and milestone communications plans

    • Earned and sponsored media efforts

    Collaborate with the enterprise and corporate communications teams to:

    • Integrate TED communications initiatives into broader corporate messaging

    • Promote Amgen's scientific leadership via Amgen.com, LinkedIn, and other professional networks

    • Ensure consistent positioning across all stakeholder communications

    Manage agency partners in developing multi-format content, including HCP- and patient-facing videos, infographics, and press releases. Oversee the review process to ensure scientific accuracy and regulatory compliance.

    Prepare communications materials for brand initiatives, events, internal briefings, and media outreach. Craft media pitches and prepare spokespeople for interviews.

    Anticipate and manage issues through the creation of holding statements, Q&As, and scenario planning.

    Basic Qualifications:

    Doctorate degree and 2 years of Corporate Communications, Corporate Affairs or Marketing

    OR

    Master's degree and 4 years of Corporate Communications, Corporate Affairs or Marketing

    OR

    Bachelor's degree and 6 years of Corporate Communications, Corporate Affairs or Marketing

    OR

    Associate's degree and 10 years of Corporate Communications, Corporate Affairs or Marketing

    OR

    High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Corporate Communications, Corporate Affairs or Marketing

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Innovative thinker with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action-oriented plans and developing/implementing new creative initiatives.

    • Demonstrated pharma/healthcare social media strategy and execution experience. Industry experience (either public relations agency or in-house biotechnology pharmaceutical company) strongly preferred.

    • Self-motivated with outstanding interpersonal, team, and collaboration skills.

    • Advanced knowledge and experience in social media, including community management and strategy.

    • Able to manage multiple priorities, establishing and maintaining effective and efficient channels of communication with new media and opinion leaders.

    • Proven ability to translate complex data into consumer-facing messages and materials.

    • Independently judges risks and benefits from a communication perspective and makes a persuasive case for taking calculated risks in the organization's best interest

    • Shows organizational courage by tactfully challenging executives when providing communications counsel and feedback

    • Applies sound judgment and innovative thinking to resolve problems and maximize opportunities

    • Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications or journalism or the equivalent combination of education and experience

    • Requires approximately 20% travel, including some overnight and weekend commitments.

    The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
