YOUR ROLE
We are seeking a Legal Counsel position for our Americas team, primarily focusing on commercial matters in North America with overflow support for other members of the legal team in all regions. This position will report to the Vice President and General Counsel - Americas.
RESPONSIBILITIES
COMMERCIAL:
Advise key stakeholders on customer and supplier contracting, including drafting, review and analysis of contractual terms and conditions
Develop strategies for contracting with suppliers and customers that maximize contractual benefits and minimize risk
Develop and refine templates, self-help tools, policies and procedures
Manage commercial relationships strategically
Analyze and resolve warranty, pricing and other disputes with customers and suppliers
Deliver appropriate training of key stakeholders to ensure company is in the best position to optimize commercial strategies
GENERAL:
Act as initial point of contact for business teams on a wide range of legal issues, including contractual disputes, product safety, and compliance
Provide practical legal advice and guidance across the business
Coordinate with other legal specialists to ensure appropriate focus and support from our corporate legal team
Provide legal support to all functions, contribute to best practices, and train the business team to become proficient in contract law and key contractual terms
Manage external counsel, supervise and evaluate their representation
YOUR BACKGROUND
Key skills and competencies for succeeding in this role are:
JD degree from an ABA-accredited law school
A member in good standing of any state bar
A minimum of five years of broad-based experience as an attorney in a corporate legal team (law firm or in-house), advising multi-national organizations on complex commercial matters and transactions
Ability to handle a variety of complex legal matters and identify, anticipate, and develop solutions-oriented strategies that mitigate legal risks while achieving commercial objectives
Ability to work well independently and as part of a global team that manages international transactions in a fast-paced environment
Ability to serve as a business partner and build consensus on complex legal and business issues
Experience in the automotive or a similar manufacturing industry is a plus
Ability to work on-site in Troy, Michigan
Must be legally able to work in the United States without requirement of any type of visa sponsorship or transfer now, or at any time in the future
