    Position summary

    nnecting Dev and Ops, JSM accelerates critical development work, eliminates toil, and tracks changes with ease, with a complete audit trail for every change. In short, it enables high-velocity ITSM.

    We're hiring Senior Principal Software Engineer to join our ITSM team.
    You will report into the Senior Engineering Manager in JSM. In this role, you will focus on a technical strategy that aligns with the enterprise technical vision and our requirements around scale and performance, and bring it to reality across all of JSM. This position would work across ~50 member development team on projects and across the entire JSM group in driving improvements to our overall operational excellence, reliability, and developer productivity.

    What you'll do:

    • Shape the forward-looking technical direction and long-term architecture for JSM.

    • Use your deep technical skills to help guide and mentor other developers, product managers, and senior managers, ensuring the team understands the vision, and help realise that vision.

    • Work with leadership and provide technical input on roadmap planning.

    • Partner with principal engineers and architects from other teams and drive exploration of large-scale projects spanning multiple teams in JSM.

    • Solve interesting, complex problems from technical design to launch.

    • Improve, through example, the quality of software construction and meaningful code reviews in an agile environment.

    • Be a role model for, and influence a large team of engineers at multiple seniority levels all the way from grads to principal engineers, and mentor engineers across the teams.

    • Be influential within your team and work with peers and senior leaders to define and revise the standards for operational excellence across Atlassian.

    Your background:

    • 10+ years of experience building software, with 4+ years in an architect/principal role working across teams.
    • Proficiency in Java or another JVM-based language. Experience in another object-oriented programming language is also acceptable, but you need to be willing to work with a Java tech stack.
    • Broad experience architecting, designing, and building large-scale systems with multiple dependencies.
    • Passion for building quality solutions and up-keeping quality standards.
    • Success with building, expressing, and pitching a technical vision to stakeholders.
    • Experience with collaboration with an ecosystem of teams.
    • Success with leading the long-term strategy for software architecture.
    • Experience with Enterprise Customers.
    • Experience in operational requirements and common challenges of software systems.
    • Experience working on developer productivity initiatives.
    • Experience working on security and compliance-related features.
