The Role at a Glance
The Manager, Health & Safety is responsible for ensuring compliance with all local, state and federal regulations while promoting a culture of safety among employees. This includes ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA, ANSI and other relevant workplace safety standards for the Brother's facilities operating in the continental US. This role will establish the strategic planning and leadership of the health & safety (H&S) functions by setting targets, implementing programs, proactively identifying workplace hazards, develop and implement safety training programs and lead incident investigations to mitigate risks and improve operational safety.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Management, Health & Safety Compliance
Design and implement safety policies and procedures to be followed by organization personnel in compliance with local, state and federal health and safety regulations as well as related standards (NFPA, EPA, DOT, etc.).
Assist leaders with incorporating safety into business planning, meetings, day-to-day operations and goals
Design, implement and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees at all levels, including new hire onboarding, annual re-training, equipment operation, and emergency response, as well as function and departmental specific training
Evaluate ongoing safety programs, identify non-conformities that create risk, and drive action plan activities with cross-functional participation
Manage workers' compensation claims in coordination with Human Resources and insurance providers to include timely reporting
Monitor post-incident drug and alcohol testing program, working with clinic/provider and supervisors/managers on return to work/light duty programs to reduce or eliminate lost time claims
Ensure compliance with OSHA & Hazard communications (GHS) requirements at Bartlett TN facility by keeping onsite SDS chemical data sheets up to date and ensuring all chemicals are properly stored and tagged with the appropriate hazard labels
Support collaboration with other departments to achieve company related initiatives and certifications (e.g. ISO 14001, environmental compliance)
Operational Safety & Risk Reduction
Support the company's H&S philosophy and implement processes to proactively prevent, minimize or control potential health and safety risks across all warehouse locations
Facilitate leadership involvement and participation in the safety program and create a safety-first culture within the organization
Conduct regular safety audits, inspections and risk assessments to proactively identify hazards
Lead investigations of workplace incidents, accidents, near-misses and injuries to determine root cause, corrective action and prevent recurrence
Prepare reports on safety incidents, including root cause analysis, and recommendations for improvement. Complete and submit any regulatory reports (e.g. OSHA 300 reporting)
Monitor workplace conditions and provide guidance on occupational health issues and ensure adherence to relevant health standards (noise, air quality, etc.)
Implement safety improvements and corrective action in warehouse, production and distribution operations (e.g. PIT safety, PPE requirements, Electrical Safety, Fire Prevention, etc.)
Leadership & Continuous Improvement
Establish and maintain strong working relationships with site leadership and business partners to ensure communication, alignment and compliance with occupational safety and health standards and regulations
Promote safety awareness through training, informational materials, regulatory interpretations, recommendations for safe work practices, and advising site workers on hazard identification and mitigation
Develop and deliver presentations, informational materials, and training to ensure critical information is communicated and best practices are implemented
Research and recommend solutions including tools, procedures, equipment, and best practices with a continuous improvement mindset
Key Experience & Qualifications
Education
Required Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or another related field preferred
Experience
Minimum 7 years Required
Experience managing & leading health & safety work processes or related responsibilities in manufacturing or wholesale distribution
Minimum 3 years Preferred
Experience with Management Systems including ISO 45001
Licenses and Certifications
Required Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Preferred Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30-hour general industry course completion
Languages
Preferred Spanish
Software/Technical Skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel) Intermediate Required
Other Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, DOT safety requirements, and industry best practices Required

Compensation & Schedule for This Role

The salary (or hiring) range for this position is $95,000 - $112,000 per year
Starting salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location, and alignment with market data
This position is eligible to participate in the relevant Brother variable pay incentive plan(s). Applicable bonus awards are discretionary and contingent upon 1) achievement of your individual objectives and 2) Brother achieving its corporate and business-level objectives

About Where We Work
Brother's corporate headquarters for the Americas is in Bridgewater, NJ, across from the Bridgewater Commons Mall. This location houses key corporate functions, including HR, legal, finance, IT, and supply chain, and a significant presence of our business unit leadership and marketing teams. Our manufacturing and distribution facility in Bartlett, TN spans an impressive 1.5 million square feet - equivalent to 26 football fields - and is located on Brother Boulevard. In addition to the distribution center operations team, this facility hosts several other departments, including our customer service group.
