The Role at a Glance
The Supervisor, Material Planning oversees the coordination, management, and scheduling of materials required for production and inventory systems within Brother. This role ensures that materials are procured and available in the right quantities at the right time to meet production schedules while minimizing costs and inefficiencies. This position uses production line capacity analysis and customer service requirements to manage production schedules and plans in a manner to prevent production line downtime, including training staff and root cause analysis when production is missed.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Material Planning and Inventory Management
Oversee the material planning process, ensuring accurate forecasting and timely procurement of raw materials and components.
Collaborate with production, procurement, and logistics teams to ensure materials align with production schedules.
Maintain and update material plans based on demand changes, production delays, or supply chain disruptions.
Monitor inventory levels to ensure materials are available when needed but not overstocked.
Perform regular inventory audits and adjust stock levels based on consumption trends.
Optimize inventory turnover rates and minimize excess and obsolete stock.
Materials Management
Ensure that materials are available in alignment with production requirements, minimizing downtime or production delays.
Provide support to production and planning teams by identifying and resolving material shortages or delays.
Coordinate emergency procurement efforts when urgent material needs arise.
Analyze historical data and forecast future material requirements to support production goals.
Create and present regular reports on material availability, inventory levels, and supplier performance.
Use enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to track and report on material usage, order statuses, and stock levels.
Team Leadership
Supervise and mentor direct reports.
Create personal performance accountability by sharing KPI's and setting expectations on how to meet the goals.
Provide training and guidance to team members on best practices in material planning, inventory management, and supply chain processes.
Foster a positive and collaborative team environment, ensuring productivity and adherence to company policies.
Process Improvement
Continuously evaluate material planning processes and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
Implement best practices for inventory control, demand forecasting, and supplier management.
Assist in the integration of new systems, technologies, or tools to improve material planning and tracking.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations regarding material handling, storage, and quality control.
Adhere to safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment for all employees involved in material handling.
Key Experience & Qualifications
Education
Associate's Degree (or equivalent experience) Business Management, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Technology. Required
Bachelor's Degree Business Management, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Technology. Preferred
Experience
Minimum 5 years
Experience in a supervisory or in a managerial role in manufacturing or production facility Required

Compensation & Schedule for This Role

The salary (or hiring) range for this position is $62,000 - $81,000 per year
Starting salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location, and alignment with market data
This position is eligible to participate in the relevant Brother variable pay incentive plan(s). Applicable bonus awards are discretionary and contingent upon 1) achievement of your individual objectives and 2) Brother achieving its corporate and business-level objectives

About Where We Work
Brother's corporate headquarters for the Americas is in Bridgewater, NJ, across from the Bridgewater Commons Mall. This location houses key corporate functions, including HR, legal, finance, IT, and supply chain, and a significant presence of our business unit leadership and marketing teams. Our manufacturing and distribution facility in Bartlett, TN spans an impressive 1.5 million square feet - equivalent to 26 football fields - and is located on Brother Boulevard. In addition to the distribution center operations team, this facility hosts several other departments, including our customer service group. Brother also has employees based in other locations, such as Westminster, CO, where many of our marketing and product engineering team members from the mobile solutions division operate, as well as our distribution centers in Richmond, VA and Perris, CA. Additionally, our outside sales teams work remotely within their territories, staying geographically close to the accounts they support to ensure they are always "at your side" for our customers.
