d other business clients on a variety of issues involving employment law, including terminations, reasonable accommodation, FLSA, wage/hour compliance, disciplinary action, and employee relations
Manage outside counsel and develop strategy for litigation, labor disputes, agency charges, audits and claims
Assist in the development, review, and implementation of company policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, providing training as needed
Conduct research and analysis on labor and employment laws and regulations to provide guidance to business clients, and implement actions to avoid and mitigate potential legal risks
Assist in the preparation and review of employment contracts, separation agreements, arbitration agreements, and other legal documents
Participate in internal investigations related to employee complaints and workplace incidents
Represent the company in administrative proceedings and assist in the preparation of responses to government agency inquiries and administrative charges
Stay abreast of changes in labor and employment law, and update internal clients on pertinent new legislation and court decisions, and address potential impact to the company
Appear for the company at mediations, hearings, trials, etc., as necessary
Requirements:
J.D. degree from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in at least one state in the United States
At least 3 years of substantial experience in labor and employment law within a well-established law firm or corporate environment, including experience counseling clients on issues involving California and Texas law
Strong understanding of federal, state, and local labor and employment laws and regulations
Excellent judgment and ability to assess risks
Strong interpersonal skills: must be comfortable interfacing directly with all levels of managers and department leaders as well as various members of the HR team
Ability to communicate complex legal concepts to non-attorney internal clients in a concise, yet thorough, manner
Ability to problem-solve and think strategically and practically in ambiguous situations
Ability to work and coordinate across business departments with an eye toward the bigger picture
High level of discretion, maturity and professionalism, especially when handling sensitive and confidential matters
Prior in-house experience preferred, but not required
