The operator ensures proper site preparation through excavation, leveling, and compaction while maintaining equipment and adhering to strict safety standards.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Operate heavy equipment such as loaders, rollers, excavators (Backhoe), dozers, and graders to move earth, excavate, and grade surfaces.
Cut grades, slopes, and ditches according to project specifications.
Perform routine equipment maintenance, including minor servicing and cleaning.
Identify and avoid underground utilities such as pipes and wires before beginning work.
Monitor jobsite safety, taking action to avoid hazards including utility lines, equipment, workers, and falling objects.
Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, materials, and any issues encountered.
Wear required PPE, including safety vests, glasses/shields, gloves, long pants, and steel‑toed boots.
Use tablets or computers for timesheet entry and reading project plans.
Qualifications
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Minimum 2 years of heavy equipment operation experience preferred.
Valid CDL with tanker endorsement preferred, or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
Strong communication skills and ability to work cooperatively with crew members and foreman.
Demonstrated commitment to safety.
Ability to work independently and operate equipment safely with minimal supervision.
