This role is essential to maintaining safe, efficient, and productive job sites across municipal and state roadway and infrastructure projects. The Laborer performs physically demanding tasks and works collaboratively with equipment operators, forepersons, and other crew members to ensure successful project execution.
Primary Responsibilities
Assist construction crews with daily operations on highway, paving, and site development projects.
Perform general labor duties including sweeping, shoveling, raking, tamping, and site cleanup.
Mix, pour, and move materials such as bagged cement, concrete, bricks, blocks, and related construction supplies.
Assist with formwork setup and breakdown.
Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment as directed.
Support grading, paving, and utility installation operations as needed.
Maintain a clean and organized job site in compliance with safety standards.
Follow all traffic control and safety procedures while working in roadway environments.
Principal Accountabilities
Provide reliable labor support to Heavy & Highway and Paving Division crews.
Contribute to the safe and timely completion of construction projects.
Adhere to company policies, project specifications, and regulatory requirements.
Promote a strong culture of safety and teamwork on all job sites.
Qualifications
Ability to perform strenuous physical labor for extended periods.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and humidity.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
Willingness to work flexible schedules, including daytime and nighttime shifts as required.
Strong work ethic, dependability, and commitment to safety.
Prior construction or heavy civil experience preferred but not required.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Employees are required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment in accordance with OSHA regulations and state agency requirements. Required PPE includes:
Hard hat
Safety glasses
Reinforced-toe work boots
Hand protection (gloves)
High-visibility safety vest or clothing
Hearing protection
Additional protective equipment may be required depending on job site conditions.
Physical Demands

Frequent standing, walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, crawling, and reaching.
Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 100 pounds.
Frequent use of hand tools and manual equipment.
Ability to work on uneven terrain and in active construction zones.
Required visual abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Ability to safely work around heavy machinery and moving mechanical parts.
Work Environment
This position is primarily performed outdoors on active construction sites. Employees regularly:
Work near heavy equipment and moving mechanical parts.
Are exposed to varying weather conditions, including cold, icy, wet, and humid environments.
Work in areas with elevated noise levels.
Perform duties in high-traffic roadway and infrastructure environments requiring strict adherence to safety procedures.
