What you'll be contributing:
Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Machinist operates all machine shop equipment (magnetic drills, portable saws and hand drills, lathes, milling machine, Key Seater and Broaching equipment, Drill Press, Hydraulic Press, and Horizontal Boring Mill).
Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
Operate all engine lathes, milling machines (vertical and horizontal), key seater and broaching equipment, radial drill presses, bench and floor mount drill presses, all types of power band saws, hydraulic presses (electric and manual) and horizontal boring mills
Repair and install plant process equipment (gear boxes, finish mill and kiln pinions, FK pumps and compressors, ID fans, motors, babbitt bearings, antifriction bearings, couplings and equipment needed for plant operations
Perform and/or make all parts of equipment, complete assemblies of equipment for immediate use and/or for spare parts and also assist in any manner needed to maintain the plant operation
Responsible for all plant parts or equipment that can be made, designed or re-designed
Upkeep on current machines in shop including maintenance preventative cycle.
Additional duties as assigned by supervisor
To succeed in this position, you will need:
High school graduation or equivalent is required
Minimum 4 years of experience as a machinist in a non-production type machine shop
Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc. Willingness to learn, training will be provided
Ability to operate all basic machine tools
Ability to read and understand blueprints, sketches, installation and repair manuals
Ability to read and understand measuring equipment (micrometers, tape measures, rules and scales, dial indicators, thread gauges, levels, squares, etc.)
Ability to arc weld and cut with air arc and oxy-acetylene equipment
Ability to braze, solder and use spray welding equipment (in shop and in field) for build up and/or repair of equipment
Ability to perform the work needed and communicate needs or problems to supervisors and co-workers
Abide by safety rules of the company and MSHA
Ability to wear dust masks, respirators and self-contained oxygen breathing apparatus
Ability to operate maintenance trucks, forklifts and lifting equipment (chain falls, come-a-longs, hoists-air and electric powered)
Ability to read and understand operating and instruction manuals for all equipment
Ability to use hand and portable power tools (electric, air, manual and hydraulic) and understand operating and instruction manuals for all equipment
Ability to repair, maintain or replace equipment
What to expect in a cement environment**:**
Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 250 feet in height. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure. Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds. Ability to climb ladders, steps, and inclined walk minimum of 2 hours per day. Ability to stoop, bend, and kneel.
