    Position summary

    y construction projects. This internship offers hands-on experience with DOT, CAA, FAA, and Private contracts, providing exposure to the full lifecycle of civil construction projects. The intern will work alongside experienced professionals within our construction division, gaining insight into managing project timelines, budgets, and resources. Candidates should be able to work both independently and within a team setting while upholding a courteous and professional demeanor with coworkers and the public. A valid Driver's License and willingness to travel throughout Connecticut are required. No prior experience with large Civil/DOT/Construction projects is necessary-just a strong interest in the field and a willingness to learn.

    COMPETENCIES

    • Interest in learning to calculate project costs and quantities.

    • Willingness to assist with project oversight from bid to completion under supervision.

    • Good verbal and written communication skills for engaging with team members and partners.

    • Eagerness to gain exposure to paving, milling, and civil engineering fundamentals.

    • Ability to approach challenges with a solution-oriented mindset.

    • Interest in learning about contract negotiation and stakeholder management.

    • Attention to detail when reviewing plans and specifications.

    • Willingness to assist and learn from project leadership and teams.

    • Openness to understanding industry regulations and compliance standards.

    • Desire to learn about DOT heavy highway work.

    • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Participate in safety protocols, toolbox talks, and site visits.

    • Assist with risk assessments and documentation.

    • Support market intelligence efforts, including gathering competitor and client information.

    • Attend internal sales and project review meetings.

    • Help with competitive analysis of bids and tracking backlog/capacity.

    • Assist with the bidding process for CTDOT, FAA, Municipal, and Private Projects:

    • Review potential bids with management.

    • Conduct quantity takeoff with guidance from estimators.

    • Help solicit subcontractors/vendors.

    • Support setup of projects in bidding software.

    • Work alongside project teams to support scheduling, project tracking, and cost control measures.

    • Collaborate with project staff to identify opportunities for improved safety and efficiency.

    • Perform additional duties as assigned to support project execution.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education/Experience

    • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related major.

    • Academic interest in transportation, DOT, or civil engineering projects preferred.

    General Requirements

    • Basic understanding or coursework in civil engineering principles and construction methods.

    • Willingness to learn about milling/paving and DOT construction.

    • Ability to work across multiple projects and manage time efficiently.

    • Valid Driver's License and ability to travel within Connecticut.
