We are actively seeking talented individuals to join Preferred Materials, Inc. for an internship opportunity to receive training and mentoring in the Safety/EHS Department. The internship program is designed to provide students with a well-rounded learning experience in support of our company's continuous improvement in the areas of environmental, health and safety. This position will be focused on the safety aspects of our work in supporting the Tampa market.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Work under the direction of the Preferred Materials Management team (Safety, DOT, EHS, and/or Project) to understand different departments within the materials, asphalt mfg., road construction, ready mix concrete and gunite industries.
Assist in maintaining a high level of safety compliance and awareness at all Group locations through frequent, regular and ongoing site visits
Interact and collaborate with other EHS specialists to ensure expert input, guidance and consistency to resolving EHS issues
Assist in the investigations of traffic crash, injury accidents and other incidents with the focus on development of strategies to prevent similar accidents in the future.
Ability to research regulations and industry best practices to help the team work toward solutions and the development of effective training in specified areas.
Must be able to interact effectively with all levels of personnel and professionals in the business units and establish rapport to influence others in accomplishing your goals.
Requirements
Currently enrolled in a 4-year undergraduate degree program preferably in Environmental Health and Safety or similar major
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
Experience and proficiency using the internet and Microsoft Office Suite of products
Strong desire to work in the construction/materials industry
