Key Responsibilities
Maintain a safe and compliant work environment by adhering to all safety policies, procedures, and using appropriate tools and equipment for each task.
Follow company guidelines and OSHA/MSHA safety standards, promptly reporting concerns to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.
Support the construction and paving crew through tasks such as shoveling, raking, transporting materials with wheelbarrows, and safely assisting with truck operations.
Communicate and signal equipment operators to coordinate alignment, movement, and material handling using shovels and other equipment.
Carry out assignments as directed by the Foreman, meeting the specific expectations for each project or site.
Operate small power tools when needed, including jack hammers and similar devices.
Excavate, distribute, and level construction materials as required for project needs.
Lift, carry, and secure a variety of materials, tools, and supplies throughout the workday.
Assist in the setup, relocation, and removal of traffic control devices such as signs, barricades, and cones.
Demonstrate reliability through regular and punctual attendance at all assigned work times.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the team and project delivery.
Qualifications
Ability to perform the essential duties listed above with proficiency and professionalism.
Education/Experience
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred.
Previous experience in construction or related fields is advantageous.
Work Requirements
Must be 18 years of age or older.
This position is Safety Sensitive.
Successful completion of pre-employment physical, drug screening, and criminal background check.
Strict adherence to safety protocols as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
Strong team orientation and willingness to assist colleagues and supervisors as required.
Willingness to travel and work away from home when projects demand.
Availability for night and weekend shifts as necessitated by project schedules.
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as mandated by OSHA/MSHA regulations, which may include face shields, safety shoes, and coveralls.
Compliance with all applicable OSHA and MSHA guidelines.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements
Understanding of construction and paving materials, methods, and tools.
Basic literacy and numerical skills, with the ability to read, write, and perform fundamental calculations.
Capacity to comprehend and follow both verbal and written instructions.
Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
Proficiency in the safe and correct use of construction equipment and tools.
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, manipulate objects, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, speak, and hear throughout the workday.
Vision requirements include near, far, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus (with correction if necessary).
Capable of working in varying weather conditions, both indoors and outdoors.
Frequent sitting, climbing, and handling of objects; occasional standing, walking, crawling, kneeling, bending, and reaching overhead.
Ability to occasionally lift or move items up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and hazardous chemicals.
Periodic proximity to moving mechanical parts, elevated work areas, outdoor environments, and potential electrical risks.
Noise levels may range from moderate to loud, depending on the work area and specific project activity.
