What you'll be contributing:
The Terminal Operator safely unloads cement from rail cars, moves railcars using a track mobile/shuttle wagon, performs minor plant/equipment maintenance/lubrication, and maintains the facility and grounds. The position must be able to work other than the day shift and twelve (12) hours or more in a shift.
Promote and follow all plant safety guidelines.
Unloads rail cars and performs railcar movements (empty and full) on the property to maximize the efficiency of the unloading process and minimize the risk of demurrage.
Maintains mobile equipment correctly, including tire inflation, brakes, water, and oil pressure checks.
Lubricates various mobile equipment and terminal machinery.
Operates a skid steer/bobcat, utility vehicle, and track mobile/shuttle wagon.
Performs preventative maintenance checks and services.
Performs housekeeping of terminal, equipment, and overall workplace
Inspects visually equipment and machinery to ensure proper operation or identify any needed repairs
Provides backup for lead position and cross-trains to learn these duties.
Cross-trains to load and ticket trucks.
Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
To succeed in this position, you will need:
High school graduation or equivalent is required
Ability to read, write and understand warning labels, instructions, signs, etc.
Willingness to learn, training will be provided
Ability to make decisions and solve problems with high attention to detail and accuracy
Proper Personal Protective Equipment, including hearing protection as required
Proficient in effective written English, verbal communication, and listening skills with fellow employees, railroad representatives, drivers, customers, and over a radio
Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibility
Operate railcar mover (shuttle wagon/track mobile)
Manual dexterity to use air, electrical, and hand tools such as chipping guns, jackhammers, wrenches, grinders, and drills of all sizes
Ability to work in a busy environment
Must understand lockout procedure and safety requirements
Must be willing to work in a team environment
Excellent personal safety record and commitment to safe work practices
Knowledge of all relevant safety regulations and a solid commitment to safety
Promote proper safety practices and accident prevention
Strong analytical and mechanical skills
Excellent work ethic - high standard of performance and production
Use air, electrical, and hand tools, e.g., chipping guns, jackhammers, wrenches, grinders, and drills
Must understand and comply with all safety requirements, including lockout, tagout, tryout, fall protection standards, PPE, etc
What to expect in a cement environment:
Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant. Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures. Exposure to high elevations of up to 250 feet in height. Exposure to all weather conditions. Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure.
