    Position summary

    the business. ODIM engineers will investigate and resolve data quality issues in the system, provide support to internal users and projects using the information contained in the system and work within the system to identify energy efficiency improvement opportunities.

    Responsibilities

    • Respond to internal customer requests for information arising from their use of Data Center SmartView

    • Interact with the operation engineers at each Data Center location to be cognizant of maintenance and operations which may cause unusual operating conditions

    • Verify the accuracy of data presented in Data Center SmartView and supporting systems

    • Troubleshoot all elements of the controls system, including field devices, controllers, network components and software systems as necessary to resolve data quality issues

    • Provide support for equipment additions, changes and deletions within the system

    • Assist in the design of new features which improve usability of Smart View

    • Maintain and develop training materials for internal and external users

    • Provide training to internal and external users

    • Act as a subject matter expert for the Data Center SmartView system

    • Utilize Smartview to identify operational efficiency improvement opportunities and work with the regional and Data Center engineering teams to implement solutions to opportunities identified

    • Update the system configuration in response to infrastructure equipment additions, moves, changes or deletions

    • Utilizes safe working practices at an expert level (e.g. can apply procedure for lockout/tagout, can explain MSDS, etc.

    • Evaluates and assures the safe working practices of others. Interacts with other engineering disciplines

    Problem Solving

    • Consistently solves complex, cross-functional issues requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve

    • Makes recommendations for system level enhancements to eliminate potential problems

    • Tests suitability of components for deployments

    Internal/External Contact

    • Contributes to mentoring junior team members

    • Consults with internal and external project team members

    • Expert level communication to include cross functional SOP development and relevant technical writing

    • Communicates effectively with both internal teams and Equinix customers

    Technical Expertise

    • Has expert controls system knowledge

    • Is a subject matter expert to others in and outside of the group

    • Extensive knowledge of multiple facets of controls engineering

    • Tests suitability of components or action plans for deployments

    Training

    • Acquires knowledge by expanding experience with systems, vendor training, participation in industry groups or meetings and shadowing others

    • Is subject matter expert with many systems and trains others inside and outside of the group

    Qualifications

    • 5+ years in control system design, operations, maintenance, and project planning with a emphasis and special focus on controls preferred

    • Bachelors degree preferred

    • Demonstratable experience in control system design, operations, maintenance, and project planning with emphasis & special focus on controls

    • Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers

    • Capable of reviewing power reports and provide guidance on data correction

    • Advanced building management system (BMS) or energy management system (EMS) operation skills

    • Must understand the electrical topologies commonly found in data centers

    • Must be able to interpret system control strategies and architecture using Sequence of Operation (SOO) and P&ID drawings, SAMA diagrams or equivalent

    • Must have excellent troubleshooting skills

    • Knowledge of the BACnet, Modbus and OPC communications protocols including protocol definition, implementation strategies and troubleshooting as well as experience with data collection and conversion software such as Kepware, Matricon, TopView, OSISoft Pi is beneficial

    • Experience identifying and implementing operational efficiency improvement initiatives is desired

    • May include executive level communications in standardized templates

    Technical Expertise

    • Has a full thorough understanding of typical electrical, fire protection, and HVAC system operation including typical optimization strategies and typical deficiencies

    • Has expert controls system knowledge, typically confined to a few brands of system

    • Is a subject matter expert to others in the group

    • Participates by presenting at internal and/or external engineering seminars/conferences

    Training

    • Acquires knowledge by expanding experience with systems, vendor training and shadowing others

    • Is SME with some systems and trains others inside and outside of the group

    Develop Policy/Methods

    • Participates in review of policy and procedure documents

    Assess Adherence to Policy

    • Assures adherence to developed standards and policy through review of documentation, participation in commissioning activities and Data Center physicals
