    Job Summary

    The Controls Engineer is a seasoned professional that performs system maintenance and support. Leads projects with well defined and a finite scope using internal and external resources. Assists with development of policies and procedures. Effectively interacts with other internal and external teams, including the design engineering, site engineering, regional operations teams, onsite support vendors and consultants on projects, policies and procedures within a diverse scope. Mentors junior engineers.

    Responsibilities

    Site BMS/Controls Support and Problem Solving

    • Country primary point of contact for controls related topics

    • Confirm, coordinate and perform site firmware updates to applicable to include servers, network equipment, gateways, controllers, etc.

    • Effectively interacts with other internal and external teams, including the design engineering, site engineering, regional operations teams, onsite support vendors and consultants new projects

    • Diagnose and resolve BMS/Controls system failures, malfunction, anomalies, etc.

    • Provide assistance to site teams for Controls related items

    • Implements and makes recommendations for system level enhancements to eliminate potential problems

    • Tests and vets suitability of components for deployments

    • have a good understanding and program industrial PLC logic systems. Also, possess knowledge of other commercialized controls systems as well as OEM systems

    • Understands Electrical topology, Mechanical HVAC operations and the relationships for controls and alarming

    • Assures adherence to developed standards and policy through review of documentation

    • Support sites during incidents if related to BMS/Controls, follows proper procedures and assist with incident reporting when needed

    • Demonstrates high/expert level knowledge of BMS/Controls systems

    • Configure all required items to provide the site with an active HMI, alarming system and historical trending visibility

    • Assist with site reporting requirements (i.e. temperature, humidity, power, unit variables, etc.) by providing reports or creating templates for internal team use

    • Able to provide requirements of panel I/O to the controllers and terminate all needed connections that will allow for the system to function

    Regional BMS/Controls Projects and Management

    • Leads small to large scale projects, dependent on regional support and department size

    • Submits change management with supporting documentation for control projects, and other site projects where applicable

    • Manage BMS/Controls vendor work

    • Develops SOWs for control system maintenance, replacement projects, efficiency projects, etc. Also, implements these changes based on regional support and department size

    • Directs and/or supports teams per project, or initiative, such as General Contractors, design teams, commissioning agents, equipment suppliers, etc.

    • Support commissioning of internal local projects, as well as construction initiative builds

    Repairs and Maintenance

    • Performs Preventative Maintenance work orders and completes all tasks within tickets in Zurich and Geneva

    • Create work order(s) needed to address existing Corrective Maintenance or Condition Derived activities.

    • Additional travel to Geneva as required

    Site Physical audit Support

    • Provides site support during Site Physicals audits

    • Works closely with site management, site Engineering and GOE to develop a plan of action for physical item resolution

    • Implements changes required to eliminate and/or mitigate issues that were declared P1/P2/P3 related to BMS/Controls and/or site related items that involve BMS/Controls

    Training

    • Mentors engineers and Site Operations. Provides both formal and informal training sessions

    • Creates training reference manuals that assist the site with understanding and interpreting existing SOOs, BMS features, trending, etc.

    • Completes assigned tasks through Equinix Learning Exchange and/or Equinix required training courses

    Server and Networking

    • Manage all related applications to the BMS in regard to the servers. This includes all software, add-ons, patches, etc.

    • Support network team, be able to maintain, troubleshoot and resolve issues

    • Work with internal SOC team to configure servers through VMware and manage deployments to the ESX hosts

    • Work with internal GEN team to ensure Juniper/network switches are properly configured/deployed

    Budget management

    • Able to successfully maintain Operations (OPEX) and Capital (CAPEX) budgets within +- 1% quarterly

    • Able to successfully provide needed materials lists to get the project completed on-time and within budget

    • Able to provide SOW to all contractors to appropriately budget for needed project fulfillment

    Qualifications

    • Proven years in hardware and software control system design, operations, maintenance, and project planning experience with an emphasis on controls service preferred

    • Schneider PLC, AVEVA System Platform, Trend and Siemens supervisions experience preferred

    • Data center experience or comparable critical infrastructure preferred

    • Good knowledge of German and English
