    Position summary

    ge scale projects and the roll out of engineering initiatives. Develops and implements policies and procedures. Effectively interacts with other internal and external teams, including the design engineering, site engineering, construction management and regional operations teams, onsite support vendors and consultants on projects, policies and procedures. Plans and directs day to day operations and strategic direction of delivery of either multiple, large construction projects or delivery of operations for an Data Center portfolio.

    Responsibilities
    Project Management

    • Leads and manages multiple projects or other design and engineering initiatives

    • Provides guidance, technical expertise and project leadership in ensuring projects or other design and engineering initiatives are meeting or exceeding company expectations

    System Operation and Work Practices (including Capacity Planning)

    • Expert operating knowledge of engineering systems to include advanced diagnostics and repairs

    • Ability to apply knowledge of Equinix processes and procedures and industry standards to resolve non-routine issues

    • Works with vendors to identify and resolve hardware and software issues with vendors products which affect Equinix operations (i.e., works with equipment vendors to understand the impacts and consequential workarounds of an equipment setting change based on its hardware design and the site configuration of the equipment)

    • Evaluates and assures the safe working practices of others

    • Reviews and recommends work practice guidelines and policies

    • Interacts with other engineering, design and construction disciplines

    • Works with the capacity and site engineering teams to formulate long term strategies for managing power and cooling resources

    Training

    • Contributes to identifying and developing training programs

    • Provides cross-functional training

    • Acquires knowledge by expanding experience with systems, vendor training, participation in industry groups or meetings and shadowing others

    • Is SME with many systems and trains others inside and outside of the group

    Contract Administration

    • Contributes to developing and executing effective contract administration procedures including generation, review, and monitoring of contracts, change orders, cost forecasts, and other pertinent documents and documentation

    Leadership and Communications (including Vendor Mgmt.)

    • Mentors junior team members. Directs all internal and external project team members

    • Directs external vendors per project or initiative such as general contractors, A&E design teams, commissioning agents, equipment suppliers, etc. ·Significantly contributes to establishing and maintaining high value relationships

    • Provides executive level communication including business requirements documents and advanced technical writing

    • Communicates Equinix operations decisions to customers and conducts post incident communications with customers

    • Predominantly peer-to-peer communication

    Policy & Procedure Development and Adherence

    • Significantly contributes to creating and maintaining best in class policies and procedures

    • Assures adherence to developed standards and policy through review of documentation, participation in commissioning activities, design summits and IBX physicals

    • Develops high level reporting / summaries of policy compliance information

    Problem Solving

    • Consistently solves complex, cross-functional issues requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve (i.e., works with local ops team to perform root cause analysis for complex incident, proposes solutions and works out implications to issues and produce lessons learnt for future reference)

    • Makes recommendations for system level enhancements to eliminate potential problems

    • Tests suitability of components or action plans for deployments

    Technical Expertise

    • Has an expert level system knowledge

    • Is a subject matter expert to others in and outside of the group. Extensive knowledge of multiple facets of the relevant engineering discipline

    • Develops and executes projects (i.e., a single go-to person for specific topic/system, mentors internally and externally on the system/topic regionally, leads projects regionally pertaining to the subject matter)

    • Reviews budget and scope, calculates savings pertaining to system improvement projects

    • Calculates savings

    • Leads internal and/or external engineering, design or construction related seminars/conferences

    Qualifications

    • 10+ years in electrical system design, operations, maintenance, and project planning with emphasis on datacenter or mission critical project delivery

    • Bachelor Degree
