Job Description
Respond to and resolve WDM/DWDM, Packet Switches & MW network issues within the time frame of severity level agreements
Troubleshooting and resolution of 1st and 2nd level network related problems.
Support all aspects of the network management process, ensuring requests, implementations, and problems are delivered as required without impacting global communications.
Deploy and document changes in accordance with the problem and the change management process
Participate in managing projects introduced by the engineering team, assuring full implementation and documentation standards are adhered to. Complete the project's objectives within timelines.
Perform the most effective approach to restore, recover, or alter configurations, logical or physical, to maintain service integrity on the transport network.
Ensure that Main One's global and metro fibre network documentation is always accurate and up to date.
Carry out site surveys, plan new equipment (MW Radio, DWDM, Switches, etc.), install Cabinets, and install towers.
Provide support as delegated on last-mile connections, including microwave radio technology deployment
Support OSP build supervision on-site for all fibre cable activities, such as Laying Fibers, laying subducts and calibrations, fibre testing, and fibre Termination/Splicing.
Assess test plans and perform tests to ensure the cable and build integrity. Issue periodic progress/ status reports regularly, based on the updates gathered from the construction teams.
Perform Network Analyses using E-Analyzer, SDH Analyzer, OTDR, and other signal testing tools/instruments to ensure an error-free network.
Report on capacity, inventory, and utilization of applicable transmission and carrier equipment configurations. Provide detailed engineering documentation to support and ensure the success of required projects.
OSP builds supervision on site for all fiber cable activities, such as Laying Fibers, laying subducts and calibrations, fiber testing, and fiber Termination/Splicing.
Ensure quality assurance on all outside plant infrastructural build by contractors during implementation.
Qualification:
Competencies Required:
1-2 years' experience in configuration, operations, and maintenance of optical fibre, SDH transmission equipment
A working knowledge of microwave transmission, and must have undergone basic training in optical networks and SDH/OTN/WDM/DWDM/IP networks
A basic understanding of IP quality of service and network management concepts is necessary
SDH OTN knowledge and/or experience working in a telecommunications environment · Ability to interpret topography, network design maps, and CAD Designs
Ability to use E-Analyser, OSA, OTDR, Transmission Analysers, Optical power meters, and other signal testing tools/instruments
Basic knowledge in configuring and troubleshooting L1 and L2 issues for Cisco and Ciena equipment.
Fair understanding of OSPF, TCP/IP, enterprise Wireless, and L2 technologies.
TCP/IP, Network Security, VoIP, and OSPF networking experience required.
Basic knowledge of Spanning Tree, VLANs, VTP, Trunking protocols
Good knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, using Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and MS SharePoint
Able to work well within a busy team and handle various issues. Capable of multi-tasking, good time management, and prioritization of workload.
Ability to drive managed vendors to prioritize and resolve problems and identify future needs.
Ability to maintain composure and customer-service focus in stressful and ambiguous situations.
