    Job Description

    GE Digital is seeking a Sr UX Interaction Designer to join the Power Generation team. In this role, you will create the strategy for designing human-machine interfaces that align with user expectations. You will be responsible for understanding a user's needs, then translating them into functional interfaces that are intuitive while providing a high degree of usability and accessibility. You will understand the technical constraints of the product and the objectives of the business to create the best possible solutions for our customers.

    Essential Responsibilities

    Research

    • Familiar with basic research methods, such as user interviews and direct observation.

    • Participates in user research sessions as listener, observer, note-taker. Understands and follows user research protocols as outlined by lead researchers.

    • Assists with user research studies by creating design workflows/prototypes to support research learning objectives.

    • Familiar with the difference between quantitative and qualitative data and the insights and connections they provide.

    Design

    • Uses journey maps, storyboards, and narratives to express how a product or service should behave to deliver capabilities in a way that supports user and customer needs as well as product priorities.

    • Designs at the appropriate level of fidelity relative to the design and development lifecycle.

    • Designs in accordance with key performance indicators set forth for a successful design (e.g. time on task, workflow completion, user satisfaction, etc.)

    • Designs product behavior that creates business value for customers and GE Vernova, while meeting user needs and expressing product and corporate brand values."

    • Uses generative techniques (sketching, brainstorming, etc.) to establish a variety of possible design decisions and decision scenarios.

    • Takes a holistic, heuristic view of the advantages and disadvantages of possible design decisions, considering user needs, business objectives, implementation, and design principles before proposing a best choice.

    Validate

    • Designs and performs experiments with prototypes and other artifacts to validate design decisions.

    • Demonstrates a basic knowledge of the technologies used in the products for which they design (e.g. front-end framework).

    • Asks relevant questions to clarify opportunities and constraints stemming from the tech stack and product architecture.

    • Reaches out to engineering for information/validation on UX design feasibility.

    • Adapts decisions and heuristics as new input warrants.

    Communicate

    • Produce UX-related artifacts in sufficient detail for cross-functional teams to utilize, using presentation and storytelling concepts relative to the target audience.

    • Utilizes the skills necessary for contributing to constructive discussion and collaboration.

    • Guides conversations in a constructive manner.

    • Utilizes effective listening and questioning techniques to contribute to defining solutions/action.

    Required Qualifications

    For roles outside USA:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Design with advanced experience.

    For roles in USA:

    • Bachelor's Degree in Design with minimum of 4 years of experience

    Desired Characteristics

    • A link to a digital portfolio is recommended.

    • Previous experience in O&G, power generation, industrial automation, or similar technical engineering environments is recommended to be successful in this role.

    • Demonstrated strong understanding of Agile / Lean UX methodologies.

    • Skilled in our standard wireframing, design, and communication tools (Figma, Adobe CC, Miro).

    • Ability to use generative techniques (sketching, brainstorming, etc.) to establish a variety of possible design decisions and decision scenarios.

    • A self-starter with a history of taking initiative with minimal guidance.

    • Strong communication skills that contribute to constructive discussion and collaboration.

    • Evidence of success working on an interdisciplinary team in a matrix environment.

    • Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems, taking accountability when necessary.

    • Questions "the way we've always done things" in the spirit of simplification, speed, and progress. Willing to take risks but recovers quickly from setbacks; learns from them and moves forward with resilience.
