    This Advanced Staff Engineer has a high potential to become a future leader in composites. Activities include supporting and contributing to the design and development of the RISE Ducted Program, solutions and systems for polymer composites. This role will impact quality, efficiency and effectiveness of this Fan Advanced Mechanical Design (AMD) Team and will have significant input into the team's priorities. This role shall be guided by professional practices and policies of GE Aerospace that are shaped by the role. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment. This role will specifically start out by designing composite hardware, maintaining our rigs/tests, mentoring, and supporting the Ducted composites team through the design review process and manufacturing of the prototypes required to deliver hardware for future ducted demonstrators.

    Roles and Responsibilities

    • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. This work would include mechanical and/or electrical engineering for all products

    • Requires specialized knowledge within the function. Influence the development of strategy for the area of responsibility, including control of resources and influences policy formulation.

    • Interprets simple internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services. Stays informed of industry trends that may inform work.

    • Uses high level of judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems in areas of operational, product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Has ability to assess quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to stakeholders. Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and is able to construct and provide recommendations. Uses multiple internal and some external sources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.

    • May lead functional teams or projects with minimal resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. Communicates difficult concepts and may influence others' options on particular topics. May guide others to consider a different point of view.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college

    • Minimum of 5 years' experience in design engineering

    • Composite design experience

    Desired Characteristics

    • Master's degree

    • Composite manufacturing experience

    • Strong oral and written communication skills

    • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills

    • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems

    • Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects

    • Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs

    • Established project management skills

    • FMEA (ANSYS solver, Hypermesh software, and CAD Modeling via NX PLM Teamcenter software) experience

    • Programing skills (C++, Matlab, Python, ... or other equivalent software)

    • Demonstrated leadership in defining the state of the art in at least one technical specialty, along with the ability to teach and set standard practices within composite Aerospace and or Aviation products
