At Cruise, the AV Performance Data Science group uses metrics and experimentation to close the loop between software development and real-world performance. We analyze thousands of miles of driving every day to provide trustworthy estimates of the safety and comfort of the rider experience. We attribute failures on the road to functional areas and software components so engineers can focus on the highest-impact solutions. And we evaluate the results of integration tests to predict how the solutions will perform on the road before investing in expensive on-road tests.

As a Senior Data Science Manager on this team, you will work directly with an array of stakeholders, including executive leadership, Safety & Systems partners, Autonomous Vehicle (AV) engineers, product managers, and operations teams. This is a great opportunity to lead a strong team working on some of the most interesting and challenging data problems in this industry . We're looking for a strategic people leader who is passionate about the AV Industry, has a track record of discovering insights from massive data, and works to discover and address customer needs through their output.

What you'll be doing:

  • Growing and developing a team of data scientists and analysts with diverse technical backgrounds

  • Setting the safety metrics strategy for Cruise for both simulation and on-road driving

  • Improving a suite of machine learning models and metrics to measure safety performance in simulation and on-road

  • Driving Data Science standard methodologies both within your team, and fostering a healthy and collaborative culture

  • Serve as an embodiment of our Cruise values

What you must have:

  • Master's or higher degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field

  • 3+ years of experience managing multiple, high output teams in Data Science and Analytics

  • 5+ years experience in ML or Data Science working on metrics, experimentation, and analytics as an IC or as a manager. Including advanced proficiency in Python and SQL.

  • Creative, resourceful, and enthusiastic about seeking new solutions to problems and opportunities.

  • Comfort with ambiguity and a self-starter with a bias for action.

  • A track record of leading multi-functional initiatives.

  • Experience in advising leadership at the director, VP and CTO level on Data driven decision making.

Bonus points:

  • Experience designing, training, and critically analyzing ML models for big data.

  • Experience deploying feature and model pipelines at scale, and monitoring model performance.

  • Advanced statistics knowledge.

  • Experience in AV or Automotive industry.

The salary range for this positio n is $171,400 - $252,000 . Compensation will vary depending on location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. You may also be offered a bonus, long-term incentives, and benefits. These ranges are subject to change.
