    Position summary

    What You'll Do

    • Support the China Safety and Industrial Hygiene Director and JV site operations leadership to ensure GWS requirements and China regulations are implemented at JV sites and other key functions.

    • Liaise with Global and site stakeholders to build and continuously improve the safety system (GWS) by driving key element implementation on the shop floor.

    • Work with joint venture companies to conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and site inspections to identify hazards and drive corrective actions; strategically implement GM standards and practices to fill gaps and mitigate the risks.

    • Provide technical consultation, training and on-site validations in Battery Safety, EV safety, Industrial Hygiene, chemical management, emergency response, confined space, Lockout energy control and other safety performance standards upon assignment or business needs.

    • Foster a proactive safety culture through campaigns, workshops, and KPI tracking (e.g., SIF reporting).

    • Engage in the resolution of data reporting and analysis of safety, industrial hygiene, chemical, etc. upon business need.

    • Oversee industrial hygiene monitoring and occupational health management of each site.

    • Work closely with Company MFG and ME teams to drive and leverage AI and Manufacturing Engineering solutions to eliminate/mitigate safety risks.

    • Coach leaders and employees on safe behaviors by conducting field observations, providing immediate feedback on unsafe acts/conditions, and reinforcing use of standard work and permits.

    Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

    • College graduate with a major in engineering, safety, industrial hygiene or related discipline.

    • Fluency in English and Mandarin

    • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time

    • 5+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing and/or construction, with substantial time spent in the field (shop floor / construction sites).

    • Hands-on experience with one or more of the following:

      • mobile equipment and pedestrian interface controls
      • lifting and rigging / crane operations
      • machine safeguarding and control of hazardous energy (LOTO)
      • work at height, scaffolding, and fall protection
      • confined space entry and hot work permitting.
    • Experience managing safety practices and risks and leading incident/near-miss investigations to root cause.

    • Experience with manufacturing processes and ability to read basic layouts, P&IDs or equipment drawings to understand hazards.

    • Ability to take a strategic viewpoint in order to compare/contrast the business benefit of alternate solutions.

    • Commitment to safety integrity and willingness to challenge unsafe conditions and behaviors at all levels (operators, contractors, and leaders).

    • Demonstrated skills and abilities in business processes including planning, finance, and program development.

    • Good interpersonal communication skills and teamwork spirit, including the ability to influence JV partners and contractors.

    What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

    • In-depth knowledge of relevant regulations and best practices in Workplace Safety and Industrial Hygiene.

    • Professional certification in Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related discipline.

    • Experience on large construction or installation projects (e.g., new equipment, line moves, building modifications), including contractor management and pre-task planning.

    • Practical experience validating machine and process safety controls (e.g., safety PLCs, interlocks, functional safety assessments) against applicable standards.

    • Demonstrated success reducing Serious Injury and Fatality (SIF) exposure through risk assessment, hierarchy of controls, and verification of critical barriers.

    • Familiarity with automotive or high-volume manufacturing environments, especially press, body, battery, paint, or general assembly operations.
