Title: Health, Safety & Environmental Manager
Location: Custom Culinary Oswego, IL
Reports to: Plant Manager
Purpose of the Position:
The Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, overseeing and continuously improving all aspects of the company's Health, Safety, and Environmental programs. This includes ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, fostering a culture of safety, and minimizing the environmental impact of company operations. The HSE Manager will work closely with all departments to promote a safe and sustainable workplace.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
Develop and Implement HSE Programs
Design and implement comprehensive health, safety, and environmental programs that comply with local, state, and federal regulations, in coordination with Global and Regional Health, Safety and Environmental Management leaders.
Create and update safety policies, procedures, and training materials.
Establish goals and objectives for HSE performance and track progress against these goals.
Position is challenged to define, source and implement effective procedures, methods and plans to reduce plant accident / incident rating.
Regulatory Compliance
Monitor changes in HSE regulations and ensure the company's compliance with all applicable laws and standards, in coordination with Global and Regional Health, Safety and Environmental Management leaders.
Prepare and submit required environmental and safety reports to regulatory agencies.
Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with internal and external HSE requirements.
Risk Management
Identify and assess potential hazards in the workplace and implement control measures to mitigate risks.
Lead incident investigations, analyze root causes, and develop corrective actions to prevent future occurrences. This includes the development of a Near Miss and Behavioral Observations program in the assigned facility(es).
Manage the company's emergency response plan and ensure readiness for potential emergencies.
Ensure compliance with regulatory in topics related to employee Health and Safety.
Ensure root cause analysis is utilized as part of investigative protocol.
Training and Development
Develop and deliver HSE training programs for employees at all levels of the organization.
Ensure that all employees are informed of their responsibilities related to health, safety, and environmental protection.
Provide guidance and support to Leaders in implementing HSE practices in their departments.
Environmental Stewardship
Promote sustainable practices within the company, including waste reduction, resource conservation, and pollution prevention.
Oversee environmental impact assessments and implement measures to minimize the company's environmental footprint.
Collaborate with stakeholders to improve the company's environmental performance.
Being creative in defining ways to continuously improve sustainability (People, Planet, and Performance) metrics.
Reporting and Communication
Influences on expense budget related to Health, Safety and Environmental
Support and provide input on CAPEX plan related to Health and Safety
Communicate HSE expectations and updates to all employees through regular meetings, bulletins, and other channels.
Additional Responsibilities
Prepare and present HSE performance reports to senior management.
Develops support for capital projects where appropriate.
Working Relationships:
Internal
Reports to the top Supply Chain/Operations leader at the local facility and indirectly to the Regional Health and Safety Manager. Must support other facilities as required.
Frequent interaction with peers, plant managers, supervisors and team leaders and employees
Participates actively in safety and environmental Teams and Committees
External
Interactions with government and regulator offices
Global and regional interaction with other Griffith units
Requirements:
Education and/or Experience
Associates or Bachelors degree (STEM preferred)
Food manufacturing experience (preferred)
3+ years of Health and Safety experience; manufacturing environment is required.
In-depth knowledge of Health and Safety legislation/regulations and consensus standards
Ergonomics experience (preferred).
Incident investigation to root cause and creation of effective corrective and preventive actions.
Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office; Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Experience in developing and delivering training
HSE Management Systems experience (ISO 14001 and 45001) (Preferred)
Must be able to travel up to 25% within US.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand and walk to communicate and listen effectively. This will require both office and plant floor environments.
Environmental Concerns
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to cold temperatures in a refrigerated cooler or freezer, and also wet environments in wash down areas.
